Title: Tektronix RSA3408A "UniqueID is empty" after HDD replacement
Post by: eb4fbz on June 21, 2021, 10:08:22 am
After suffering a couple of costly HDD failures in lab equipment, i dediced to replace the 40GB PATA HDD on my RSA3408A spectrum analyzer with a Trascend 64GB PATA SSD. Cloned the full HDD using Linux dd as usual.

In the process, i found 7 bulged 1500uF 6.3V caps on the CPU board too, and replaced them too.

The analyzer boots as usual, but the Tek RSA GUI complains "Option Key: UniqueID is empty" and refuses to respond to any key press. I'm afraid the licensing system uses the HDD ID, so with the new hard disk it fails authenticating the unit.

Anyone has information about this analyzer platform? It seems an obvious preventive repair to me, given this analyzer is 15 years old.

I fixed it! Just needed to change Disk ID using Linux fdisk to match the original disk ID  :-DD
