Agilent / Keysight N2750A 1.5 GHz Differential Probe
« on: June 25, 2016, 12:38:07 pm »
My first high speed differential probe that I got very cheap and just tested for the first time.

Agilent / Keysight N2750A, 1.5 GHz Differential Probe
This one is still sold by Keysight with a current list price of Euro 2945 Plus VAT

It came in the original plastic box with all accessories and is brand new.

It offers the following settings:
––   A – B (differential)
––   A – ground (single-ended A)
–-    B – ground (single-ended B)
–-    (A+B)/2 – ground (common mode)

Unfortunately, this probe does not work on my 7000B series scopes but works perfectly on my DSO-X 3034A and MSO-X 3104A
The probe is detected and at first use, a calibration is required.

Here are some pictures and info:

The scope offers a few new menu points for the probe

And here is a first screen capture with this probe.

It would have been nice to include some more adapters to probe directly at a chip.
But then, these adapters are also outrageously expensive.
May be I have to make some adapters myself.

The lights are a great feature and the knob-function can be set by the scope menu.

Anyone here having experience with this probe?

Very nice indeed!  I frequently need to use a flashlight and really like the dual headlights in the probe!   It would be interesting to somehow compare it with a passive or single ended probe.

How do you select the attenuation?     When using the tips, how do you set the spacing?

Prices on the used differential probes keep falling.  I was watching a 13GHz listed at 1100, then relisted at 850.  Then you will see some junk probe where they want over 2000.  Seems deals are out there for the advanced hobbyist.

How do you set offset when it's in offset mode? The adjustable tip seems like a convenient function, how difficult is it to set?

That is an interesting probe. I would guess the reason that it does not work on a 7000 series scope is that its a InfiniMode probe while these scopes only tend to support InfiniMax active probes. So i would guess it doesn't work on my 6000 scope, but should work on a 9000 so i might have a look around ebay.

They're quite recent additions, so it may just need firmware to work on other scopes (that may never be added). But since they're rather new they're also rare to see second hand. You could also consider the 1130a and 1131a probes which come up much more frequently.

Even with the latest FW update on the 7000B series scope, the probe is not recognized.
But it is listed to work on the 9000 series scope, see picture:

The seller has sold 4 of them so far, may be he will bring more on to ebay.
