Siglent SDS1104X-E: Small spots spreading inside the LCD screen

Hi everyone,

I’m seeking some advice regarding a display issue on my Siglent SDS1104X-E oscilloscope. I’ve owned and used this unit for about 1 year and 8 months, and recently I noticed these small spots appearing inside the screen, as shown in the attached image IMG_7125.jpg.

From my observations, these spots seem to be slowly multiplying and spreading over time. They are definitely underneath the outer protective layer, so it's not surface dust or external scratches.

I would like to ask the community:

What is the likely cause of this? Could it be early LCD polarizer degradation, fungus/mold growth inside the panel due to humidity, or a known defect with this particular display batch?

Is there any way to fix this or at least slow down the spreading?

Has anyone experienced a similar display issue with their SDS1104X-E or other Siglent entry-level scopes? If so, did you manage to resolve it without replacing the entire LCD assembly?

For context, the scope is kept in a typical electronics lab environment. It's never exposed to direct sunlight, though the ambient humidity can be high at times.

Any insights, technical explanations, or advice on how to deal with this would be greatly appreciated!

I have one that is over 4 years old and have nothing behind the screen.  Last year I did have some very similar spots, but was able to remove then easily using a glass cleaner.  Just a light spray on a soft cloth, then gently wipe the screen.

What have you done to determine if they are/are not surface specs?  Mine would not remove with a "clean, dry, cloth", but as stated, came right off using a little spiriz of glass cleaner on the cloth.

I shone a flashlight on it. It was a scratch under the glass, seemingly coated with black paint.

Mould mites possibly? After you have got it clean, you may need to store it in a box with dessicant, or some other way to control the humidity.
