Title: Tektronix Type 526 Vectorscope 1966 composite video test
Post by: oz2cpu on July 29, 2024, 04:01:29 pm
I scored an old Tektronix 526 TV vector scope, almost all tube based, 53 tubes and ONE transistor,
I managed to get it working,
I made a little video about it, if you like to see it ;
https://youtu.be/JLpGkpkU7uM

by the way a long time since i posted on this forum, I had the idea it was broken some how,
all things looks terrible, wierd and very different ?
can this be repaired ??

I always start a working day with your video. This one was a delight. Somehow, you seemed happier in this video (the bye-bye at the end was very cheerful).

thanks a lot, such a kind reply, YES i was very happy to get this one working
I always wanted to have a vector scope for video signals

And SDS2000X Plus and 2 Zone triggers won't let you see what you want ?  :-//

Unless that scope has a phase locked loop able to generate a stable 4.43361875 MHz from the swinging colour burst and use it in two balanced demodulators, no.

YES tautech, my TDS2204 is a super scope, and it contain all the nice video triggers,
so it is a lot better over any other scope i have when it come to composite video,
it just dont do anything with the colorburst, its phase or its vectors to a colorbar signal.

Fun fact : I may be the only one still working with composite video signals :-)
so i am surprised and happy to see brand new scopes still support video triggers.
and here is a full features frame line configured trigger on top of it :-)

one cool feature i would LOVE to see : video demodulator mode, show the incomming picture on the screen live,
this will remove one more item from my desk, a video monitor can then be thrown out.

feature two : since I also own a Siglent generator SDG6022
I should be able to capture exactly two fields of a colorbar test image, store that file, and then somehow transfer it to the generator,
then make the generator playback the file, and bingo : now i can throw out my colorbar generator,

Feature 3 : the scope also contain a generator, could that be used for playback ?

You'll need EasyWave SW for this:

From SDS2000X Plus datasheet P15
https://int.siglent.com/u_file/download/24_07_01/SDS2000X%20Plus_Datasheet_EN01D.pdf

Arb
Frequency 1 μHz ~ 5 MHz
Waveform memory 16 kpts DDS memory
Sample rate 125 MSa/s
Wave import from EasyWaveX, from U-disk, directly from waveform data of analog channels

Internal AWG mem depth could be an issue for complex signals however SDG6000X should handle this with ease.

Well, bring it on in a new video ;-)

A static PAL picture with mathematically correct subcarrier repeats every 8 fields which is 160 ms. Sampling at 3 times subcarrier that is just over 2.1 Mpoints.
