--- End quote ---

No it's usually absolutely fine really almost everywhere. Us Londoners mostly joke about it because it reinforces the stereotype of how bad it is. Literally everyone apart from everyone who lives there thinks it's nasty. It's really not. You can walk along quite happily in even the shittiest bits with an iPhone 10 slapped to your head and no one will stab you or try and take it. Opportunistic theft is relatively low and most of the people who get killed or stabbed are tit for tat private gang violence. There was a spate of motorcycle muggings in the last year but this was almost entirely down to 3 people apparently. They're just finishing off all the copycats now. Most people have silent respect for each other.

Edit: Genuinely you can sit in a greasy cafe in the East End of the city and have a millionare currency trader, homeless guy, foreign student, unemployed person and a muslim refugee sitting at the same table eating breakfast and talking candidly about life as if they've known each other forever. Nowhere else on this planet I've been have I seen that. People say it's unfriendly but I've only found it the opposite.

Worst illustration and explanation of point award goes to RSGB from the full license revision book :palm: ... doing the exam this week so having a quick scan...

I can see sooooo many things wrong there.

Shouldn't that work better if it were a feed thru termination?

--- End quote ---

Yes generally a good idea to use a through termination. The SWR is going to be shit on a T-piece though. Fine for audio. I can see the following things that are wrong with it however:

1. The T-piece is usually connected to the scope in the middle so it's the wrong T piece.
2. The T-piece indicated can't be plugged into the scope because the gender is wrong.
3. Through termination as mentioned is definitely better.
4. Don't connect the probe to the T piece, it's not a 50 ohm match to the DUT.

Quick update, I'm not in any hospital nor on the way to one, meter is stashed in the car, when I get back with it I'll fire it up and post pictures of it, cost was just £35 at the end so well worth a punt cos I can get that back at least as spares if need be 🤣🤣

--- Quote from: Specmaster on June 10, 2018, 10:48:13 am ---Update on the Fluke 8840A, rang the seller this morning and they claimed that someone from Germany offered them £60 for it and postage, and offered it me for the same to save them from having to post it. Claimed that they had seen them selling on Ebay for between $100 and $300, well I can see one that sold on 26th May for only $53 (ignoring postage), fully working with both GPIB and AC-09 options fitted. Pointed this out and he said yes that was a low one and kept saying that if I go with a lead I could test it, if it worked £60, and if not than I could have it free.

I pointed out that his wife last night said I could have it for £40, to which he replied OK, if it worked I could have it £50 or free if it didn't work. They claimed that when they moved in to the house recently, the previous owner had left a whole load of similar stuff in a cupboard and that they had sold the items and everything worked and was 100% confident that this would work as well.

Suffice to say that I smelt a big stinking rat lurking in the background, their story kept changing slightly and seemed to be pressuring me to go and see it etc. The round trip would take me about 3 to 4 hours dependant on traffic so I declined and told them to take the German offer as after considering all things, it was too much of an economic risk to me, I mean for all I know it could be stolen gear.

Besides I already have 5 other 5.5 digit meters but always a nice VFD one, I didn't feel comfortable with this one  :phew:
