Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) group therapy thread
bd139:
Best thing in these situations is lots of diffused ambient light. Problem in those environments is that you end up feeling like you’re working in a hospital.

Very punny.

It's great how the feedback loop in this thread operates. Always gets back on the right track.

Purchased from AliExpress for a reasonable price of $14.74 USD and fulfilled from some One-hung-low company. Free shipping and no sales tax. Surprisingly it origin scanned not in China but in California.

Nice lights. Yeah, some vendors have a warehouse (or relative) in the US and stuff ships from one coast or the other.

med's setup is pretty nice. Being able to close the overhead cabinet is great, too, when you need the lab to look somewhat presentable.
I have one of those function generators, too. A few times I contemplated sticking some fishing weights or something in the bottom.

I have it plugged into a USB wallwart charger which is remotely switched on the mains side. It does an excellent job of illuminating the LCD.

You've reminded me I have some old keyboard lights like that somewhere. They disappeared because I never really needed them for lighting my keyboard. That's a good reuse for them.

Um, isn't your lab a test equipment hospital? ;D
GreyWoolfe:
Honestly, I don't understand the point of pin point lighting. I will admit, I went overkill. I have an 8' workbench. I have 2, 4', 6 bulb LED shop fixtures that output about 10,000 lumen each. I spent about $280 USD for both lights. My workbench is bright, I can see, there are no dark spots or shadows and I am saving money over the fluorescent light fixtures I had while having more light. Granted, I own my home and have dedicated office space so I can mount my lights into the ceiling. If I was renting, I would have figured out a way to mount them to my workbench so as not to damage the rental property. We all spend real money on our toys, why not spend some on lighting?

It's nice to hear it referred to as a hospital and not a mortuary these days :D

Proper benches as used in labs tend to have lighting built in as well.
Specmaster:
Wouldn't it be nice to have some lab benches like those eh, plenty of space on the bench and shelf space above, I'd like another shelf there though, and then all the power you need attached to the back and even keyboard drawers. Love to have a house big enough or even a garage where you could locate something like that to work on. :-+
