Or an SMU, they are nice too

I was really feeling like my lab was pretty much exactly where I wanted it to be in terms of TE. Very comfortable balance, and a happy camper living in it.
Until this showed up out of nowhere on a local ad.
It was filthy, failed, rusty and with a stuck fan, for USD 34. How do you say no?
Pictures show the clean and working version, thanks to the new proud owner.

Very nice, did you have to replace many parts?
Mine is in quite poor condition, having rescued it a few years ago, last time I worked on it, it was eating diodes & a transistor in the trigger circuit

Only a blown up resistor, the power cable, and 3D print a missing knob. More than anything, it was all about disassembly, wash, scrub, rust removal, clean, lubricate, repeat.
I was able to tell that the timebase is way out of spec, and there's a similar situation on the vertical. Next in line is to measure and compare, which will likely end up in more parts being replaced if I ever want to bring it up to par. As for now, I am happy to see a trace. I can see yours has a replaced CRT.

Glad to see another 502A onboard, they are not common compared to some others.
Thanks for posting about yours.... it reminds me that I need to fix mine at long last !
Got 3 of them. First was in terrible mechanical shape, with lots of damage, too far gone (actually I bought originally for parts only, to help me restore a vanilla 502) but electrically it was actually quite nice : I got it working in just a few minutes by replacing one single tube in the horizontal amplifier IIRC.
Then I bought another, in much better mechanical shape but extremely sick electrically. Spent a lot of time on it but no go, it's resisting me big time, it's testing me I think...
Then I bought a third one, just because I had the opportunity... in good mechanical shape, horrible cosmetics due to storage in a damp wood working shop, and as for electrics I have no idea, I have not had the opportunity to work on it yet. Seller did say it didn't work (shocker), that he replaced two big ass expensive tubes in it (rectifiers in the power supply), but no go.
Bad weather is coming which means I will soon start spending much more time working in the lab fixing all my old TE. Well, as much of it as I can that is... we shall see how much I can manage before spring comes and I start working outside again.
Hopefully between these x3 502A scopes, I can make one good looking and working one.... should be alright..
