Vince:
I sent the seller of the 556 a message... he just replied, saying he already has a buyer, too late !
So yeah, poor "little" boy will most likely be torn apart and land in a junk yard somewhere locally... :-BROKE
factory:
That is an interesting one, I would also struggle for space if something like that was available over here, I do hope it's going to a collector and not a tube nonce.
According to the 300+ page manual it's using a lot of transistors, over 100 of those, those vastly outnumber the hollow state parts. Also interesting they had to persuade Amperex to modify parts for them.

Vince:
100 trannies in the thing ?! :o
Wow that's more trannies than there are tubes in any one of my other Tek scopes !
That's cheating... it's not really a tub scope then, pfff.... :-DD
I am OK with a handful of trannies here and there, say 5 or 6 tops, like in my 502 or 547 but.. 100 oif them ?! That's taking the piss ! :-DD
I had a quick look at the manual, looking for general specs to arrange for its shipping, and was stunned that TEk failed to indicate the most basic of informations : weight and power consumption !
I found only the dimensions. I can't quite believe such basic info aren't present. :o
factory:
Seems to be some errors in the manual, power consumption is listed under the 'Front panel output signals' specs, 840W or 1kVA max. :-DD
Can't find the weight, but there is a mention complaint about the weight of the prototype on the Tekwiki page.
--- Quote ---From Tekwiki Attempting to moderate the situation, we instituted a “cuss box” requiring a five-cent donation per cussword. The proceeds were intended to buy gifts for the prototype support people who had to wrestle with an 80 pound prototype.

Edit: The cabinet model is 83lbs or 37.7kg according to the 1974 catalog (see page 136).

Pah, not even close to what a 16A branch circuit @230V can handle. So
nothing to worry about.
