You stay in London because it’s convenient. It’s one of the only places in the world you can buy an onion, a fuse and laxatives at 3am on Christmas Day (been there, done that).

My grandmother retired to the seaside. Two years later she can back to London because she was “fed up of the bird shit and death.
Since I saw Paignton when I was in my teens, the thought of retiring to a Costa Geriatica has filled me with dread.

Now I know I like living in/near towns with a decent university - the students bring a zing to the area.

Where was that? Looks like a hill I need to go up :)

Looks like the South Downs. I was dragged up in Epsom, 30mins from Waterloo and Victoria and 200 yards from 4 miles of road-free commons on the North Downs. No livestock either, unlike Minchinhampton common

Iwent to Paignton when I was a kid. To the zoo there.  Similar outcome.

Yeah was thinking looks like Butser on South Downs :)

I was born in city of London, then to Hertfordshire, a short spell in Cambridgeshire then Nottingham for some stupid reason and back to London. Don’t live in Nottingham. Bad idea that was.

Surely that can't be worse than the Fens?

The Fenlanders are stuck in a time warp from the 70s. The only worse place than that it is the Forest of Dean, but that has the redeeming virtues of contours, trees, and (arguably) wild boar :)

Nottingham is considerably worse. I had to take the bulb out of my porch light to stop the prostitiutes using it for illuminating themselves jacking up and giving blow jobs. Unfortunately this gave the car thieves and fly tippers cover of darkness.

Edit: to note one reason I sold everything TEA related historically was I didn’t want to leave it lying around there.

Sometimes even I have a good idea. Working in the basement is perfect on a tropical day like today!

I remembered that I had set aside one of the cabinets to sort my screws into:

What I didn't remember was that it was still occupied by a few TTL ICs ...  :palm:

Where was that? Looks like a hill I need to go up :)

I don't know precisely because it's just a photo I found with an image search, but intimate knowledge of the local geography (i.e. there wasn't much to do in my childhood that didn't involve being outside) says that it's a view facing west along the South Downs escarpment probably taken from near the Devil's Dyke restaurant , which is about a mile north of the back edge of Hove. My guess is that the hill with the masts is Trueleigh Hill.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Oh, so they've finally moved on from the 50s then?

Mmmm, wild boar. Don't, you're making me hungry.

Browsing evilbay while sipping my saturday's coffee and eating my apple pie, I came upon this: https://www.ebay.de/itm/TEKTRONIX-547-Oszilloskop-Oscilloscope-1A1-Einschub/362400037714
What a stunning beauty. And 1 day away from the end sitting at just 7,50 €!

Luck has it that it has to be fetched there and I can't drive. :phew: Might have gotten weak otherwise ... or should I ask my friend? No! It is way too large!

No! I said no!

Back on the rare subject of TEA, hvstuff have paid their bills and their site is back on line now

Either that or they've been reissued stolen social credit points and been extracted from the re-education camp :scared:

Reading the story it looks more like it was the Metropolitan Police Crashing Racing Team that was out. Any civilian driver that was driving in a fashion that they managed to overturn a saloon car in a city street would get slapped with a dangerous driving conviction, what's the betting that the idiot officer behind the wheel barely gets a slapped wrist.

The text says 'Pickup only', except if the buyer somehow arranges to get the anchor packaged and sent at his place - he's not going to do it.
Damn it, this machine is really tempting! (Picking it up myself by using public transportation - aka train - doesn't seem to be a viable option.  :'()

Maybe if I look again tomorrow the price has gone through the roof ...

Wonder what I could offer to my friend for driving? Wrong thoughts!

Fenton always made me laugh. For the uneducated on Fenton. This is the park behind the photo :)

https://youtu.be/3GRSbr0EYYU

That was... surreal. From the other side of the pond, utterly devoid of context... it makes no sense at all why this maniac is chasing a herd of deer shouting "FENTON!!!"   :-DD

Is it something akin to this flowchart I stumbled across the other day?!?

I dunno about you city slickers. I was born in NYC but moved up here in the Hudson Valley when I was 2 years old. Been a country boy too long and I could never live there although my roots are there. And I don't mind the occasional visit but I find comfort in the fact that I won't be staying.  :phew:

My daily commute to work is this bridge. Mid-Hudson Bridge over the Hudson River taken from the Poughkeepsie side. I live on the far side several miles in. Yes, I have to watch for deer and other critters that like to commit suicide by vehicle. But I can't complain too much.

The view taken out my bedroom windows minutes ago. Notice something? No traffic. Although that changes in the Fall when the local apple orchards open.

Peace and quiet. Birds singing. No stress.  :-+

Weiterstadt - that's a one hour ride from here. No, I won't buy it. No, I won't buy it. No, I won't buy it.

That's a lovely view to look at, this is the view from my lab window (note to self to clean window) behind the trees is an estate road with houses on the other side of the road only as the road is right behind the tree and its a fairly busy road to boot.
