Vegemite is not a product to be disrespected - especially in the presence of Aussies.

I think it was Letterman that had it on his talk show with a description of "Looks, smells and tastes like axle grease".  Lucky he was on the other side of the Pacific.

I've tried Marmite and Promite - and they just taste awful.  Vegemite is the king.  In years gone by, getting Vegemite outside Australia was difficult.  I remember helping a friend who was heading out to the UK transfer Vegemite from the jar into a lined coffee tin - as glass jars weren't allowed.  Private export of Vegemite was common and when they introduced plastic jars this was made a lot easier.  People had standing orders to bring some over if they visited.  I believe there are some small corners in the world where you have enterprising merchants who have Vegemite in stock.

Certainly, Vegemite has an unsubtle and distinctive taste, but it has enjoyed popularity as a spread for sandwiches and toast for many generations.  They tried putting it in cheese slices and even chocolate - but they didn't fly off the shelves.

I'll just take my Vegemite neat, thank you.

See we have even done studies on it's electrical properties and suitability for 3D printing :-DD

Yes, Vegemite at 45ºC really needs a better part cooling fan.

Heres an interesting thought experiment, which would you lot prefer? A 6236B HP power supply or a TM506 with a PS503A. The tek doing the same thing but with higher current. Electrically speaking, factors like space occupied non relevant, which is better?

Then again there is the factor that i have lots of hp in rack and no tek in there... yes i, of course, realize the one true solution would be to pick both but lets just assume both together are impractical.

I'd take the 6236B myself. Five reasons:

1. Built in meters. They're analogue but that's just fine.
2. Less overall space (see picture further down)
3. Output and controls are rather cramped on the PS503A.
4. The third output on the 6236B is variable so you can use it for 3.3V stuff without having to futz with an additional LDO
5. It's really nice to just look at because I'm weird.

The PS503A does have an output switch and variable current limit however. In practice, the main switch works nicely on the 6236B and the current limit of 500mA isn't enough to do terrible amounts of damage if you do something stupid. Plus I have a PL154 sitting on top of it which does have current limit :D

As i said size is about equivalent all things considered...  :-DD

A for effort. That’s more impressive than RevK’s ADSL over wet string.

EE prank in future: replace potting compound with vegemite  :-DD
Better: replace vegemite with potting compound!

Would taste better, I'm sure... and probably healthier for you as well!   :-DD

Ama-effing-zon...

Just got all this from Amazon... delivered next day for free... at 20:45 on Sunday... all for ~US$31.45

I went looking for the phone opener pliers and the sealing tape, but wasn't happy with delivery times on fleaBay. The 21 piece kit with the pliers cost $12.99; $6 more than pliers alone (for any vendor who could get them here before Christmas) and the screen sealant pooky tape cost $7.99, or all of $2 more. Plus it came with needle-point tweezers to install it with.

Yes, the kit comes with the tri-Y tool you need for iPwn X, and that square thing is an all-metal PCB holder! And yes, that IS a genuine Otterbox to make the minimum order cost.  :-+

I'll post back later re: quality of the tools when I have a chance to use them; I'm building a 128GB Ipad Air 2 for my daughter, as she's been getting a bit frustrated with the mini. Hopefully the A8 CPU and twice the RAM will be able to keep up with her.

The best part? The brand: XOOL

If, once I've completed the sacramental rites on my daughter's iPad, I find a gateway to another dimension ruled by Gozer the Destructor (a prehistoric Mesopotamian death god) in my fridge... I'll let y'all know.  :-DD

Just... damn.

Probably a NE2 neon bulb. With your sweaty palms and feet as a current limiting resistor, it might not even blow out. Right away.

I have a tool that looks very similar which is used as sortof a poor man's Megger to look for "leaks" in car ignition wires. I sure AF would NOT hold the other end of it like that, though.  :-DD

One thing to mention with the HP is service is a hell of a lot easier than just about any other power supply ever made thanks to the industrial design and the excellent manual. No other manufacturer comes close there IMHO.

We had a metric ton of HP power supplies on our benches at work, and never had a failure that I was aware of.  That, to me, was ample justification to appreciate their analog electronics.  There were power supplies in racks which probably hadn't been moved in 20 years, and no one thought anything about hooking one up and flipping the breaker.  True, the repair docs were excellent - another reason why most HP gear was serviced in-house when needed.  Contrariwise, most of the techs didn't enjoy having a piece of broken Tek gear brought in; we did have loads of it and loved it, but you just trusted it wasn't going to break because it wouldn't get fixed rapidly.

I'm not a beer drinker - but I believe there's a reason why that stuff is exported.

What intrigues me is that it gets imported somewhere.

Generally the USA which speaks to their Beer palette  :-DD

The Poms even make it under licence https://www.theguardian.com/business/2011/jun/21/fosters-lager-brewed-in-britain

On a list of Beer drunk in Oz it rates ZERO or off the charts.

https://www.brewsnews.com.au/2015/05/13/fosters-on-tap-where-to-find-it/ 10 Pubs in Oz only on tap!

Thankfully, you can even buy Guinness and 2-3 types of German dark in local grocery stores now; no need to go to the package stores.  I tried Foster's once, and the best description I could come up with was "The Australian equivalent of Budweiser."  I wish I could find some proper Oz imports around here (no IPAs please).

Coopers Pale Ale might change your mind about IPA's on the chart above it is the only one I would drink these days. It is cloudy unfiltered and full flavoured. Coopers Extra Stout is EXCELLENT !!! Just happen to have a six pack -1 = 5 pack

Carlton Draught or Vic Bitter were what was normal when I started drinking beer 30+ years ago. These are from the same company that Fosters comes out of. CUB was one of my clients way back when and they were 'playing' with decreasing Brew times by chemically altering things around. As I was supplying pumps for those chemicals I decided I didn't need to drink it anymore  :P

We have a lot of quality Microbreweries and smaller brewers that have avoided being snapped up for the brand name by the big players so you may find some getting into the USA via wine merchants and so on.

On Guinness has to be proper Irish brewed for mine our local brewed under license (assume the US is the same) isn't Guinness.

Perth just sucks for prices on most things. Housing, Wages and cost of living are a bit out of control plus the remoteness issue for anything from this side of the country.

Add to that the following

Quote
A typical 24-carton of full-strength beer at 4.9 per cent alcohol will set you back $47.99. Of that, $16.49 is excise, then add $4.36 in GST. Yep, $20.85 is tax. At almost half of the retail price the most expensive ingredient in beer, is tax.

Hey... everybody gets ONE "Fuck you! to the world".

I can respect that, but I still can't understand why Budwiser advertises in Dublin (I've seen this a few times now, always on Pearse St near Trinity College).

When the "local piss" is Guinness I don't know why you'd bother, although I guess that doesn't stop Corona selling well here in Australia.
