The nickname for those are 'smashed pipe bands' as no one is in tune or time.
PS Re Steam train to mallaig, starts with solo piper, at about 35 secs typically 3 other pipers join in, as the drones come up to pressure they are off tune for a few seconds and you can hear the heterdyne, but by 45 seconds you can't hear it any more - just the harmonies and a little syncopation.

In Germany (and Switzerland) there is something similar. It is called "Guggemusik".

Example:
“Chaos is found in greatest abundance wherever order is being sought. It always defeats order, because it is better organized.”            - Terry Pratchett -

Do you think there is any point in trying to resurrect these 1988 NiCds?

They are from my newly acquired Time Current Calibrator; look at the minimum scale and resolution, but the spec is +-0.2nA etc :)

Yes, it does work fine without the battery, although I had to replace the filter electrolytic and a torched 100ohm resistor in series with the battery.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

Do not spit on my face, but I would put a 3S Lipo pack with somehow a charger circuit.

I'm probably not going to bother replacing the NiCd cells, since it works well on the mains supply and I don't need transportabillity nor am I worried about warmup times.

In the past (for a Tek 1502 TDR which requires the cells before it will even switch on) I've used tagged NiCd cells from https://www.batteriesplus.co.uk/acatalog/1.2V_NiCd_Sub_C_Rechargeable_Tagged_Batteries.html and simply soldered the tags together. But since my local hackspace has now got a battery terminal spot welder, next time I might use that on untagged cells.

Got a few of those myself. Better not plug it in untill I removed the battery pack, then ;)

you left out the jingtinglers, floofloovers, tartookas, whohoopers, gardookas, trumtookas, slooslunkas, blumbloopas, and whowonkas.

You might need them to meet leakage specs (i.e. remove insulation resistance to the mains out of the equation by unplugging it) if you're planning on playing at the arse end of that source's capabilities.

Actually, I bought a few of eBay some time ago. They turned out to be NiMH. When I looked closely at the ad, it was indeed listed as compatible or equivalent or some such. Not sure if there are actual NiCads on eBay still...

Furry NiCd battery packs seem to be a recurring theme with Time equipment!

I managed to find some NiCd packs locally from a radio control shop, so I replaced the pack. Replacing them with NiMH is a big no as the supply is made to trickle charge the pack at the correct rate for NiCd cells.

Gotta disagree with you all that can't stand bagpipes. Done properly I think they sound beautiful.

Here's the NYPD Emerald Society. Every retired NYPD officer is entitled to a single piper at their funeral if requested. I've been to a funeral and while it may seem a little out of place for a retired Hispanic officer it does add beauty and dignity.

And of course if an officer is slain on duty the entire Emerald Society turns out for the funeral. This particular cop was Chinese descent.

An old gray beard with an attitude.

Something in my ad/script blocking config doesn't resolve the embedded vids, but that Dragoon Guards cut may well be the finest pipes I have heard

thank you.
I'm new here, but I tend to be pretty gregarious, so if I'm out of my lane please call me out.

I've always had a soft spot for march bands with bagpipes and you're right they sound OK when done properly. They also of course IMO need the drums, especially the bag bass drum to balance them otherwise they can get a little scratchy.

I always respect things like this when a colleague in the Police or the Fire Services is struck down, the solidarity and respect shown for them, irrespective of their colour or race is very touching and heart-warming to see.

Or, living behind a red door in the basement of an IT company, together with Roy and Maurice. :D

There's something about that flat part of England that means that the inhabitants make, and have a fondness for that kind of music. My good mates Alan and Kleo (niece of the Rev. Lionel Fanthorpe - for those of you of a Fortean disposition), who hail from Norwich, used to be in a band of that ilk.

That's my mates Alan and Kleo in the centre from an old band publicity pic taken sometime in the late 80's:
