That conviction was quashed. The police had no basis to issue the fine. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-52148020

I know, it is similar in the state next door (state, not country) ... We do not have a lockdown like that over here, they just prohibited get-togethers where more than 2 folks are involved. So my stunt was not illegal per se, and over here there are many cars on the road.

However: I still kept the social distancing, all that was involved was handing over the money without personal contact and pick up the box. Plus, that was done while wearing an FFP2 mask and disposable gloves. The interior of the car has already been sprayed down with IPA, so that should be ok for now.
And while this may sound like "overkill" I want to keep it reasonably safe for all parties involved. I just could not resist those offers.

We don't have a lockdown like that here either. The legislation is very light and fairly non speciifc. The police however are just shitty law technicians generally and attract a certain type of cunt to the job here.

Much to the surprise of a couple of narks over the years I have no obligation to identify myself to them unless they want to arrest me.

reminds me of a run in with customs at Frankfurt Int'l

I had bought some archery equipment on a black friday sale at the Bass Pro in Vaughn (gee, did I spell that right ? The BP west of Toronto, not at the outlet center down QEW)
First issue: bring it over. Phoned Lufthansa and told them I wanted to bring a bow. They made a huge fuss about that (why ???)
but put it into the system. When departing Canada I was at the check in early (like 4 hours early). Check in made a fuss about it as well, they wanted me to declare the bow as small arms and the arrows as small arms ammunition. (are they completely out of their minds ???)
Anyway, upon arrival in Frankfurt I went to the red line and told the customs dude: here's the receipt and the credit card printout. I have a bow, it is below my allowance.
His question: what do you want that for ? why do you need a bow ?
my answer: this is none of your f-ing business. I do not break any laws when buying or bringing a compound bow, and it is not subject to any of our weapons restrictions. Do your duty
He was pissed and wanted me to unpack it (yeah, unpack a compound bow in the middle of an airport, how smart is that ...) which I denied. I told him that he had an xray machine and I was more than happy to have him xray my parcel to confirm the content. a few additional minutes of back and forth ensued, so I told him that if he absolutely had to know, I would be adding the bow to my collection of firearms. He: Illegal ones ? losing his composure Me: how stoopeed do you think I am ? I have an f-ing license for that. Can I go, or do we have to go to your superior ...

I could pass ... no duties, as it should be.

Finally got around to it - building a dodgy vero board for the atmel micro for the Tek Logo and Wizard - I had to put it up on a Tek! Trying to decide whether I want to box it up properly or not. Does shimmer quite a bit.
Rob
Any idea who is still selling the programmed chip (or where can I download the binary) ?
Have you checked out this website?   https://vintagetek.org/vintagetek-demo-board/
That is where I got my pre-programmed micro - arrived sensibly packed and quite quickly. 👍
PS But it was pre-covid!

Yeah... that's why I was asking if you could hook up to a UART on it & extract the software it's running; so the rest of us might be able to DIY it on a Arduino. :-+

Add some blue pain to that and we get Papa Smurf.   ;D

just returned from a shopping trip under PPE which included 400 km of driving. No, once you don the gear and touch something potentially infectious, you cannot take off the gear until you can go throu decon.

picked up a shiny GTX1060 for a hundred, and - in continuation of yesterday's discord session - a Technics SL-Q3 for 10.

Both are still undergoing simmer down procedures, the GTX will be sprayed down with IPA later today, the Technics can just cool off where it currently is.

Bought my XFX RX580 for $140 a year ago when the bottom fell out of the GPU mining market. Still can get that for it. :-+

Had a direct-drive version of that SL-Q3... probably a SL-Q5. I got rid of it because I could heard the servo whine from the TT motor, drove me nuts. I still prefer the noise isolation of belt drive. I did like everything else about the thing tho... Technics LT implementation & UI was suberb, aside from the limited number of P-mount cartridges that would fit and provide correct tracking weight. Think it had a AT85P or somesuch when I got it; replaced it with a OMP40 at the recommendation of my audio shop manager. Kept the OMP40 & put it on my old belt-drive S-arm Marantz when I sold the Technics.

If I had it to do again, I'd probably go with that very model; the SL-Q3 its brother, the SL-3.  :-+

Oh, then amend that. The SL-3.  :-DD I'd still buy it to fix & flip for 10 clams, tho. DD= :P

My apologies on the Mexican beer. It was Tejas which loosed that disease upon the civilized world...  :palm:

That calculator is a Kinpo made abomination for the office market with an HP logo on it. Remember HP is effectively dead now. Even the RPN guys left out everything into the fucked up miss that is the 39G OS and curled out the Prime.

There’s a market for decent calculators still I reckon.

What is the key with the two white lines supposed to do?

thanks for asking. i am glad i was not the only one puzzled by that.   >:D

We have a lock down, but not of the Italian style, it is very much a gentlemanly affair, government ask people to stay at home and by and large the vast majority do just that. Some have however been gathering at popular spots like lakes, woods  etc where people feed ducks, or go for walks and the police have sealed of the roads leading up to some them to keep people from gathering there because the spots that have been sealed off have had the car parks overflowing and parking on the main roads, all of which could be helping to spread the virus.

I often go to an old wartime airfield (now used for small private planes) to take photos of some of the more interesting planes. This airfield also hosts a weekly market and that has been cancelled till further notice and the airfield, although still being open, is only open to those who have business there, i.e. plane owners and the Police and Air Ambulance crews etc that operate from there. Even though I'm a regular there and the airfields ops know me and most of the interesting plane owners do as well, its off limits to me and there is certainly never a gathering going on there unless its a public event.

I attach a few photos showing the high Police presence in areas where people like to gather, the first photo shows a road closed to stop people gathering to feed ducks

Hmm, London ones are not much better if at all, didn't you say the other day that they stopped a young boy from shopping and him home again?  |O :-DD

Southend donuts are well fucked according to Essex Live reports, the entire seafront is shut for business of any kind and almost 1 in 10 shops had a fresh made donut machine in it churning out piping hot sugar coated donuts  :-DD

North Weald is real loss for me at the moment as lots of military helicopters used in the construction of Nightingale Hospital and the relief work generally are dropping in there for refuelling  :palm:

All planned air shows for 2020 are already cancelled for the year.

I've been spending time beefing up my bench. I just finished machining an insert for a very basic but useful magnifying lamp. Engine flywheels work surprisingly well as lamp bases :D. Pretty successful weekend project.

'Bout a Thou out. Good enough for Australia ;)

Fits like a glove...

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the way it came out :-+. Now what to do with all the desk space I made....  :-DD

Here's the whole machining process:
