Just won an Agilent 34970A Data Acquisition unit with 34901A mux card and 2 blanks - £240  :-DMM :)
Basically a 34401 6.5 digit DMM and switch driver in a box. Current kit costing about £3000 here.
Was anyone else here bidding?
I've been after one of these for a while. The plan is to connect 3 or 4 channels to a 4mm break out box so I can hook up several test points and quickly switch between them without moving probes, a boon for trobleshooting.

Bench 1 put back together. The equipment arrangement is essentially the same as prior but the big difference is hidden. This tear down has allowed me to clean in areas inaccessible and also to fix the rat's nest of mains wiring that was out of control. It's neat and tidy now.

I'm really liking the new color scheme. Definitely brightens the room. Even the Lady Cop likes it and we never agree on color. She gave a big thumbs down when I repainted the bathroom and kitchen. But it's my space and that's what I want. She respects that and there's been no negative consequences. Isn't that refreshing? Disagree with a female and get away with it.  :o ;D

So now back to TEA stuff. I have a Mouser order arriving today. Paint brushes have been put away for another 5 – 7 years.  :-+

Yeah if you have patience they show up pretty cheap. Anyway I never needed one. I still have my K2001 with 10Mux card that I never touched.

I would be unwilling to push my luck any further. :scared:

See the 7603N in the bench pix I posted? See the nice trace on the CRT? Not 10 minutes after taking that pix it crapped out.  :wtf: No trace, no bean find.  :palm: It went with a whimper. No noise, no smoke. Oh well.  :scared:

I have 3 of these with assorted modules. Very handy when you are trying to calibrate a batch of thermistors in order to instrument a garden compost bin - to find out why they typically don't work as advertised.

Well I intend to use it mostly as a bench DMM but there will be some datalogging I'm sure.
One nice thing with the 34901A is the two 1A shunts built in. You can measure current and voltage in the same circuit with the same meter without interrupting the circuit to change modes.
Will be interesting to see how many operations the relays have on them.

Ah ha....I shut it off and left it for about a half hour and now it has a trace again. Some sort of heat related failure. Very interesting. Currently powered up with a trace. We'll see how long it lasts.

Thanks. My father flew as a navigator in Mosquitos during the second world war, so I have a bit of a soft spot for them!

But it's a real shame that not one in the UK is in flyable condition. The disadvantage of making it out of plywood. It rots. I believe there are one or two here flying and also in New Zealand.

Having flown several wooden (not plywood) aircraft built in the late 50s/60/70s, the main problem seems to be that the glue fails.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
