Yeah, they have been around for about 30 years, and must have a huge storage facility, they're definitely not in a hurry to sell some things. One of the must like his collection of ancient voltmeters, if you want one you have to buy about thirty odd in a job lot  for a grand or something. Also I think they expect to get offers on most things they sell.

No smoke was released but seems the right most driver may have been taken out   :'(

Seems the internal oscillator has a few issues too. Timebase is correct give or take.

Some TEA goodness for you all.

Along with an interesting sub-story to the 8300A, the fuse holder cap arrived broken and i was marginally annoyed because of it, thinking i might have to replace the body as well. Imagine my surprise when after 3 hours of looking i discovered they still make the exact same fuse and sell it, curiously, only through mouser or in bulk. A 3 dollar part, a spare 3 dollar part, a contingency plan and shipping later it was 17 dollar order. I now have two meters with complete fuse-holders as well as 2 spare fuse-holders.

Hey! You've got my redhead, and I want her back! I can see her on the 2nd monitor. ;)

You can keep the brunette; all she does is lie around the house naked and get potato chip crumbs in all the furniture.   :-DD

18 mass shootings at schools in the first 7 weeks of 2018. Fuck those bullshit statistics; other "civilized" nations don't have that many in a YEAR. I'm sick of seeing children bleeding out in classrooms, where they SHOULD be safer than in their own living rooms.

America is gun-crazy, and it's a side-effect of the batshit crazy in DC. With trickle-down economics, the money never trickles down... but the despair and the crazy sure doe

Many years ago I bought a S-VHS recorder and was always fascinated by the fact it also recorded Teletext transmissions along with the TV program. During playback you could watch the program and operate the Teletext to select pages to read :)

You don't want to tell us you need this to actually test something!? What can it be used for, apart from displacing air and heating the house?
But then, the dot matrix LED display is a beauty.  :-+

Now that would be a fun project...

Build an analogue TV signal source with teletext.

Looks like they will often accept 80% of the asking price, so I'd make a first offer a little lower than that.

Who needs a transmission? It appears you've already found a way to light them all up (even if only momentarily). Winner!

It looks like those dot LEDs may have individual controllers for each character like the HP that Pat posted. Do they?

On the early ones of that series at least, option 001 was the eighth digit.

Oh, so it was a "Dumb-Ass-inator" until you got it, eh?  :-DD

You may need more than just a few ICs and a nixie to make that work... it appears many of the traces there route directly to that card-edge connector.

Thanks for letting us see this gorgeous beast!

Haven't checked but I suspect that edge connector may go to the GPIB card if fitted. So may just be the BCD outputs off the chips?

I haven't looked at the schematics, but that board has an edge connector on each side. I'd also suspect that it's for options other than the eighth digit. BCD output sounds good. I suppose some kind of option to display values might be another although I don't know what that might be since you already have the voltmeter.

That would be my guess.  Additional options for the unit included: Opt 002 - Remote Programming (all controls but sep/com switch, fast/norm mode, input attenuator and AC/DC coupling); Opt 003 - Digital Output (numerals and polarity only); and Opt 004 - Remote Programming (including all BUT fast/norm mode).

I'd expect those to tie in to the 'mystery' edge connectors on the display board.

Keysight has a scan of the manual online, but it's not the greatest quality.
