maybe its an inherited trait.

in 1986 my old man was 'bout the only guy in the greater philly area to buy a racing green import called a "cortina".  what a piece of dog shit it was.  every morning before cranking it over he had to look underneath to see what had spontaneously fallen off it overnight.  the ford dealer never could make it right and finally took it back (he got a torino to replace the little green turd).

to this day he loves that damn cortina.

and I love my 1740 series scopes.

That's no surprise. Because the Cortina was.....

ahem.....

My second car was a brown cortina. I had that for three weeks. It died. When I say died, I hit the brakes and the engine came out.  :-DD

Heh. My Dad is pushing 80 and he still goes on about the Cortina 1600E that he had as a youth. I thought it was cool because I thought it looked like my Matchbox Torino and as I wanted to be David Soul at the time.

Has anybody here had any success with any electronic anti-mosquito measures? Do those 65 KHz ultrasonic jobbies work? The one major drawback of living next to a large body of fresh water  :( My bites have bites on them.

I live near a sewage farm. We have mega mosquito problem. Ignore the electronic killers. They do bugger all. Net curtains and chase the bastards down with a bottle of dettol. Dettol fucks them right up.

Well what a coincidence, I also used to own a racing green Cortina Mk1 with the "Ban The Bomb" rear rights, just like the one in these stock pictures. Looked a million dollars, had just been completely resprayed and all the chrome was restored and the interior was showroom fresh but the engines was a real turd the only time it go over 40mph was downhill. I had to fight the dealer to get the engine replaced, they tried everything in the book to cure it first but in the end they had to to do it as they had ran out of ideas. This was many years ago when we had the fuel crisis in the 70's and I was looking for something a bit easier on fuel then gas guzzler I was driving at the time, it was a lovely Vanden Plas 3 Litre automatic, around 18mpg  :palm:

And here is the Vanden Plas, except mine was all black, absolutely gorgeous car, had been chauffeur driven all its life prior to me buying it.

Haha, never tried that, but I know that one of those electronic bug zapping bats fucks them all right, reminds of one of those classic carry on films with the smell they make while being electrocuted, frying tonight!

Full circle to tea, stick a probe on a scope and stick it on 5mV/div then zap something with one of them in the room. So much RFI!

can't ask the old man because he does not have a computer, is 92, and lives in Delaware.  (if you call that living.)

maybe the export version was not the same?

Strange, they were very popular over this side of the pond and reasonably comfortable as well. I don't recall that there was any mayor problems with them here.

maybe repositioning the steering wheel to the proper side caused a major discombobulation?

the old man did love the damn thing........although he rarely go to drive it, since the dealer had it more than he did.

Just got a email stating my best offer was declined , and someone bought the items.
It is one of those cases where you should have accepted the buy it now price , and went with it. If a price is too good , you should just buy it. I didn't need them , just wanted them.
I feel sad  :'( , but thankfully I found out there was less in my account then anticipated  :phew:.

My first car was a Cortina Mk1 SW in the mid 70's and it was all I could afford. Blew the engine then rebuilt it then crashed it and panel beat it adding significant front ballast in the form on panel bog.  :-DD Nearly got what I paid for it back to buy a 1600 crossflow Mk3 sedan. Used to race a mate home most nights, he had a Mk3 facelift 1600 OHC and could pull away on the straights but I had better tires and could always catch him on the corners. Neither of us had enough power to pass the other once they got ahead. Good times.  :)
After that came another Mk3 2L OHC in bright metallic Kelly green and it looked super smart all polished up. Had that one until I got married then got a Mk2 Escort 1600 Sport and that was a great little car. Even back then it had some go but could also be cheap on a trip. A 3000 mile trip we did for our belated honeymoon got 38mpg.
That was the last Ford I owned and most likely ever !
Been on the GM side since with Aussie Holdens as our main driver.  :phew:

My second car cost me £600. I used it for 10 years, left it off the road for 18 months - and then sold it for £600 to someone that carted it away on a low-loader.

It was a proper frankencar. Quite a few bits were from Minis, when the passenger windscreen wiper caused it to fail the MoT I simply removed it ("if wipers are fitted they must work"), and the fuel gauge was calibrated in roentgens/hour. Yup atomic powered.

Oh yes, it had a completely different engine in it too, a 4.2l Perkins diesel. It would do up 54mph on any gradient whatsoever :)

(Hint: it had 16 forward gears and 4 reverse gears)

The Cortina lived on over here until around 1980 or so as Ford's "World car" the Fiesta; at least the 1600 engine and transmission, only now re-envisioned as a transverse FWD, but still the same gearbox.

My first legal car on the road was a blue one like this; I had a love/hate relationship with it. I loved the freedom it represented, it hated to see me with more than gas money in my pocket and broke down constantly, even though it only had 55k on it when I bought it for $1200. Eventually I got a red one and a yellow one for a couple hundred apiece and kept them out back of the barn just to keep the blue one running.

In other news; I stayed up til 2AM hackmodding my son's new lightsaber because he didn't like the red color and no sound. Gutted it, built a 18650 battery module with protection/USB charge PC, then added a CC/CV LED driver and sound board from a toy lightsaber. Finished it all up with a 4 \$\Omega\$ laptop speaker and a little drill press abuse on the pommel fitting so the sound could get out.

When he came home from visiting his grandmomma, he plotzed more than when I first gave it to him.  :-DD

Good work on the light saber but what the hell do you yanks do to our British cars? Fords are very reliable over here, Hmm could it be that your grease monkeys don't know how to service small engines that extract a lot of HP from very few CC's?
