HP 3478A owners that are interested in hacking their DMMs might like to check out this microcontroller-based extension project:

I don't belong to the group of HP 3478A owners but I really do appreciate that interesting and smart modification through the GPIB port. Well done, kirill_ka!   :-+

Even though I don't have a 3478A I bookmarked the link immediately after having seen the video of the extension working.  :)

Thanks for the hint, bitseeker!   :-+

Summer's last gasp here with another heat wave and the power grid is having trouble keeping up. Several reports of pole transformers releasing their magic smoke in spectacular fashion (burning oil, etc) and other reports of primary cables simply burning open and dropping to the ground and starting brush fires. And obviously creating a very real hazard.

Reached 94 F (34 C) today with oppressive humidity. Got home from work this morning and never went back out until tonight. Slept in a nice comfy 72 F (22 C) bedroom.  :-+

Just got home from work and all my clocks are doing the flashdance. I wonder how long the power was out? And more heat expected today.

We're not getting older. We're getting better.  :-+

Although I hadn't seen that video in many years I had always assumed it was in B&W. I didn't realize it was actually in color until I stumbled upon it today.

It was shot on film (in colour/color) at Twickenham Film Studios

Based on my Mother's age at death, who I take after genetically much more than my Father, you've got another 38 years to wait. Will you still remember your own name in 2056, let alone remember that you've got to hustle a silent key sale.  :)
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Which is ironically only up the road from me :)

From a genetic perspective I'll still be going then, just, probably relying on the wonders of medical science and a nappy :)

I've just heard from out in the street the characteristic beep of the postman or a courier scanning a package and realised that for the first time in ages there is nothing I'm expecting from anywhere, not even £1.50 worth of mystery goodies from China, so it can't possibly be for me. Hmm, I'll have to fix that...

Done that and he accused me of being childish, threatened violence etc all the usual things that bullies do. We live in a close and there are 20 houses and if each house had 5 vehicles they fill up the road that our close joins as well. The length of the road a 130 yards long and each house has been given a drive to park on and space outside for 2nd vehicle.

Problem is also the economics today don't help youngsters get a place of their own so they live with their parents and his son and girlfriend live there and they both have a car each. If they could afford to get a place of their own, problem goes away so I think its a problem thats is going to become widespread. :palm:

Yes but there must some restrictions as to what and where you can do what ever with them. A local farmer recently purchased an armoured personnel carrier (large tracked vehicle like a tank but with a smaller gun) which he parked on his land, just by side of the gate across his driveway, it was only there for a couple of weeks and then it was gone, nowhere to be seen, so what happened to it, I have no idea. Maybe the local authority stepped in made him remove it or similar, who knows?
