It was a hard wired unit and was connected directly to the bus bar on top of the racks via a dedicated tap off. Unit was three months old. One of the AC inlet modules exploded. It was past the termination and actually inside the device. Enough of the termination was left to eliminate the installers from the chain of blame. There wasn't a lot of it left in there to work out why it blew on the board. It sucked 8KW peak that little box :)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ThermoPro-Digital-Instant-Cooking-Thermometer/dp/B07CB8JG21/

Here it is... they got the model wrong in the Product listing; it is the TP-01S, not TP-01A. I think that may be a special packaging just for Amazon; it came in a little sealed box, not the usual hook-hang card-style blister-pack.

AVOID the little bulb-shaped one they also offer on that page; my last one had that same kind of segmented LCD display and it was an utter POS. You breathe on the little fucker and it all turns black and you can't read it; absolutely USELESS on the grill.

*Juicy-ometer*

£4.99, now we're talking.

Thanks mate. Looks like SWMBO's Amazon account is about to take a hit.

Edit: SWMBO came in 30 seconds later, she has been mugged...
Ummm.... glad I could help you mugg SWMBO...?

Just make sure the next time she likes something you cooked that she knows the thermo-tormentor made it possible and she'll forgive us. ;)

And THAT is why I excessively document EVERY STEP OF EVERY INSTALL. There is no such thing as too many photographs.

[EDIT]
I really have no idea what else I can say here; APC has been one of my go-to suppliers for decades, and the reason is I work with their product all the time and have had a near-zero failure rate. And not a single failure I believe was not directly caused by environment or dumbass-fuckery. They're one of the few products I think of in decade terms; deploy it and forget about it for 10 years...

Unless you're a dumbass. Then ONE photograph is probably one too many.  :-DD

We're currently waiting for the fresh from the oven turnovers to get down below lava temperature in the middle...
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Both, and neither. This is the magical room of TEA where everyone knows your name and the topic at hand is whatever the guy in the (metaphorical) corner happens to be babbling about.

I think it all started way back when bd139's oven was bust and we were all taunting him about what baked or roast things we were enjoying while he was waiting for a replacement and 'is missus was spending all the new oven money on haircuts and shoes.  :)

Can't be bothered to sort/fix any TEA gear tonight so my mind got wandering onto powerpole connectors for test leads and radios. Have ordered some to play with.

That's what all the power for my ham equipment is connected with.  :-+
IMHO, what sucks most is that they are using those pesky blade fuses on this box. One characteristic fits all? But most that are sold don't even belong to a defined one.

Yep, you can always count on your fellow members for sympathy, although to much rubbing it in about a roast dinner on a Thursday could cause a waning in the sympathy stakes

I rather like blade fuses. I bought some inline 3M brand fuse holders for this project.

What sympathy is this? I don't remember any  :-DD

I had apple strudel for pudding. Waitrose own brand fresh individual portions. Yum. https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/apple-strudel/091816-47272-47273

While I was out today attending a family funeral the postman dropped this little gem of for me along with 5M of 12AWG black and red silicon cable so I can make some heavy duty meter leads and can also double up as leads for the power supplies, just waiting the arrival of some suitable stackable banana jacks etc.

This little meter is pretty accurate, certainly accurate enough to use in the mobile tool kit and can measure DC current by clamping the meter around a cable and during testing I found is within 0.2 of mA on its readings so it's not a shabby little performer at all considering its cost (mine was half price because I used up some Nectar points). I was feeling a bit down and needed a new toy to play with at the time I ordered it and bugger if within hours of ordering it I stumbled across that 8842A as well  :palm: and there was no way on earth I was not going to make a determined effort to secure it as it was fully loaded, but it needed to be at a much reduced price, it was listed at £250 and I managed to get it at £100 which was my limit and to my pleasant surprise the seller was only a few miles away and he kindly offered to deliver it to me the same day...result. :-+

Now you made me think of a Kaiserschmarrn and an Obstler.

Unrelated but current: I snagged a supposedly working DC503A counter fot the Tek TM500 system today.
I already have one, but for 30.- I would even take it for the plugin and the spares.
But I would be willing to exchange it for another TM500 unit (which ones, we will see).
Applies to Ge and other european adress.

If it's any consolation SWMBO is a diabetic and can't eat half of what I do. You're not alone in your misery  :-DD

With cream. Unfortunately all is not well with me either so lactofree cream it is. Lactose is my kryptonite  :-DD

Anyone here got 8842A? if so, do you use the 20 \$\Omega\$ range in 4 wire mode for the extra resolution, and so is it ultra slow reading or is my meter? If I do the 4 wire mode on the 3478A it gives me 4 dp anyway, even in 2 wire mode and so much faster?

Depending on what it is, this diabetic doesn't necessarily care.  Mrs GreyWoolfe brought home a home made cheese cake from a patient/friend and I made sure that I had my share.  Yes, my blood sugar jumped into the 130-140's range (diet maintained type 2) when it is normally in the 100-110 range but that's OK.  Cheese cake is a protein for diabetics says Mrs GreyWoolfe and she is our PCP's medical assistant. :-+ :-+

It's my understanding that except for a rare few with LI that manifests as acute IBS, 6-8 grams, sometimes as much as 12 grams per meal is still tolerated well.

Heavy whipping cream has almost no lactose; it's all fat. Well, 0.41 grams per ounce... which still makes it less than a gram for the 60 or so grams I pour in a cuppa coffee.

Alternately, unsweetened almond milk; I prefer vanilla flavored as it masks the slightly fishy taste of plain almond milk. Zero lactase, 1 gram carb for 8 oz. All recommended carbs on my 10-20 gram a day keto diet.

Oh this type 2 diabetic cheats on occasion too. You have to or you'll go nuts. My A1C stays between 6.3 and 6.5 and I control it with 1 oral med and diet. (It was 7.9 when I was diagnosed 4 years ago! :scared:) No insulin shots required. I don't check my blood sugar but every 6 months I have blood work done and my fasting blood sugar is usually 80 - 100. And my weight is normal for my height and I make sure to keep it that way. So I'm diagnosed as a "controlled diabetic".

I regularly temporarily forget that you guys in the States use mg/dL for blood glucose where we use mmols. Normal in mmols is in the 4-7 range, so 130-140 sounds like you're a walking corpse with corn syrup in your veins, until I remember that's in mg/dL so is actually around 7.5 mmol and is "Meh, a little high. I've seen worse induced by a single dose of corticosteroids".
