Yes, my blood sugar jumped into the 130-140's range (diet maintained type 2) when it is normally in the 100-110 range but that's OK.

I regularly temporarily forget that you guys in the States use mg/dL for blood glucose where we use mmols. Normal in mmols is in the 4-7 range, so 130-140 sounds like you're a walking corpse with corn syrup in your veins, until I remember that's in mg/dL so is actually around 7.5 mmol and is "Meh, a little high. I've seen worse induced by a single dose of corticosteroids".

When I was first diagnosed I had my blood sugar checked and it was 440!  :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: I should have been dead.

Now that's what you call corn-syrup veins. :o

Oh this type 2 diabetic cheats on occasion too. You have to or you'll go nuts. My A1C stays between 6.3 and 6.5 and I control it with 1 oral med and diet. (It was 7.9 when I was diagnosed 4 years ago! :scared:) No insulin shots required. I don't check my blood sugar but every 6 months I have blood work done and my fasting blood sugar is usually 80 - 100. And my weight is normal for my height and I make sure to keep it that way. So I'm diagnosed as a "controlled diabetic".
My A1C has been sitting at 5.9.  I also go every 6 months but I do check fasting glucose every morning.  I hate to admit it but I am very overweight.  However, since being in the hospital 2 weeks ago for a week with a small bowel obstruction and having to have a naso-gastric tube crammed through my nose and sinuses into my stomach, I am finally listening to my doctor.  I am not sitting for hours everyday in front of the work/home computer.  I am getting up and walking around every hour or so.  The missus and I have filled the tires back up on our expensive but underused bikes and we are riding in the evenings and I am watching what I eat.  Between the hospital stay and last week, I have shed 10 pounds, thankfully without dieting, smaller portions and common sense eating.  It may take 2 years to lose the weight I need to lose, but I will get it off and keep it off this time.

And So It Begins... Again.

  HOUR 2:

Relocated, reconfigured and printing a resliced gcode; so far looking promising. Printer action is much firmer; more positive. Stepper whine is also about twice as loud.

These stepper drivers aren't the cheapest ones possible, but they are the cheapest ones known not to produce "salmon skin" artifacting in the print surface. TMC2208s are available all over as "silent driver" upgrades, but at around $35/set they're 10% of the printer cost.  Tevo has been getting beat up pretty hard by the "We expect everything AND the kitchen sink... FOR  FREE!" whiners for not including them; so I think maybe the reduced current setting was an attempt to decrease operational noise.

I'll let y'all know how things look in the morning.

Curious to hear your guys opinions on this shelf. This shelf, the angled one above the miter saw, is angled at approximately 20 degrees has both front and back stops as well as side rails. Custom made to fit my mainframe tek , secured to the table using two corner braces and then secured directly to the beam to it's side and under it. I tested it with my weight for reference and it only budged when my full weight was applied. Think it is safe enough?   :-//
I ask because i'd hate to accidentally destroy it due to my trying to be clever.

Opinons? Rants? Rotten tomatoes? I welcome all forms of comments on this particular shelf.  Also note the miter saw and other tools are only temporary occupants.

Which mainframe Tek?  7000 series?  I think they're relatively lightweight compared to the 500 series tube jobs.  That shelf looks beefy enough for a 7k Tek to my eyes at least.

Having put two D83's on the similarly formed shelf in my cupboard and having it collapse, I'm less inclined to trust shelves for such things. I didn't build the shelf. If I did it'd be at least 4x2" material and I'd have to be able to stand on it if I did it.

My Tek 7k likes to try and dislodge the disks in my spine as it's a vicious bastard so I dread to think what it could do to something else :)

Hard to tell from your pictures but I'm inclined to agree with Cubdriver. Tek 7000 series, a qualified yes. (Need better pictures) Tek 500 series, not so sure.

An A1C of 5.9 is good. That puts you in the "pre-diabetic" category. Type 2 runs in my Mother's side of the family so I got the whammy. I found the biggest contributor to control was diet and weight. Prior to diagnosis I was 203 pounds on a 6 foot frame. While that's not considerably over weight it certainly doesn't help. It took me almost a year but I'm down to between 170 - 175 pounds and I've kept it there for almost 3 years. And it's tough to do because the shitty American diet is big on portion size, big on sodium, big on sugar, and most of all big on carbs. That's the killer. It really sucks that 90% of what you see in the grocery store you can't buy/eat because it's all processed foods high in that crap. So I've had to learn to cook and prepare low carb meals myself. But every once in a while you gotta break out and pig out.  :-DD

No TEA activity this weekend. The lady is coming for the weekend. (She's also diabetic so we suffer together). But we are going to the New York Airshow on Saturday. Maybe I'll get some pictures but I'm not a shutter bug so don't count on it.  :P

Here we just crunch metformin and carry on as usual  :-DD

TBH it's really difficult. Everything ready made is crap as you say and there is constant promotion of even more crap and the crap is the cheapest. Food in the UK is turning into food in the US while our health authority is complaining about obesity being the number one cause of everything. Poverty, marketing and a race to the bottom is mostly the cause of this.

I am slightly lucky I suspect due to my swiss and german background. They basically lived on sugar for the last 200 years. It killed off all the weaker genetic lines pretty sharpish and left me with super genetic sugar tolerance. I can eat a whole biberfladen and dig out SWMBO's test kit and it hasn't budged from nothing.  :-DD  I hope it lasts.

Metformin here too. 1000mg twice a day. I tolerate it very well. A lot of people don't.....gives them the shits.  :-DD

You are very lucky in that you have a high sugar tolerance. My lady is African-American and diabetes in that race tends to be very severe. She is on 2 different insulin "pens" plus the metformin plus other meds. And she won't tell me what her A1C is.  :-//

med6753, pictures would be great please. I love air shows and I like photography so its a great opportunity for to combine the two, often I'll take about 1,000 plus photos at a show.

UK air shows will I think slowly die away though because of new rules and regulation following that fateful crash of an old jet fighter onto a major road killing around 10 people. These days they are forced into having nearby roads closed during a show and moving the display axis so far away and high from the crowd line that unless its a large plane being displayed, they almost become dots in the sky. Photography then becomes useless at that point unless you happen to have a lens of at least 400 - 600mm focal range.  :palm:

Latest order from Mouser. PSU caps for the RCA scope. More tantalums to re-cap the trigger/horizontal board in the Tek 465B plus that bad boy tant in the HV area. And some other assorted parts.

I use Mouser's cheapest shipping method which is $4.99 USD. That involves UPS plus a transfer in USPS for final delivery. Even with that hand off from UPS to USPS I ordered this on the 10th and it was delivered yesterday. Texas to New York in 3 days. Can't beat that.  :-+

I like RS too, but I haven't used them for much recently due to them not stocking the parts I need - I rarely pay for shipping from digikey due to easily meeting their minimum spend for free shipping.  :-+

They are rather nice. Those LED displays were bloody expensive when they came out. Around £15 per digit!

Good news for those of us in the UK today. It’s ebay £1 max sellers fees for the next 4 days. That means all the shit people have been stashing for weeks is going on eBay. I have a 4 foot fall pile of crap in the Hall that needs to be shifted so I’m going to probably end up replacing it with more crap. The only winners will be the couriers.

Photography then becomes useless at that point unless you happen to have a lens of at least 400 - 600mm focal range.

Then you need to be particularly adept at framing and tracking a moving object to minimise the addition of camera shake to the mix.

How very true, fortunately I'm pretty good at panning, a skill I learnt at Silverstone trying to track and frame F1 cars at close quarters while racing, first few attempts were awful  :palm: With a practise the results are worthwhile, and trying to track and frame a moving jet fighter during a fast flypast is even worse as something like a Typhoon at Riat for example is probably traveling at around 400 mph right in front of you, then you need image stabilizer mode on a lens especially on 200mm plus.  Sadly though I can go upto 300mm so anything outside is a merely a spectator event then. To get a 400+ lens for my camera even 2nd hand is at least £1000, more like £2000 to get anything respectable.

I think I mentioned before that my lady is a cop. Specifically she's NYPD School Safety Division. Guess when her birthday is? September 11th. Guess where she was on September 11, 2001? At a school about 10 blocks from WTC. She saw the whole thing. She said she will never forget the smell. The smell of death. The images of cops assisting pedestrians across the Brooklyn Bridge to get out of Manhattan? She was there. She was on duty 3 days straight before she could go home.

Needless to say even 17 years later that event has put a permanent damper on her birthday. So I try to play it up as much as I can. When she gets here later today she will be greeted with this. It's the least I can do for her.

Yes, there's a cake there and we're gonna eat it.     :-DD

My latest Ebay purchase has arrived, sold as not working, a Teac CR-H250 receiver, advertised as power LED is on but will not switch on. Thought the bloody thing just needed a couple of capacitors in the power supply, so I'd have something at last to get teeth into on the bench, but no, how fecking wrong was I. :palm:

Opened it up and a CD was wedged in the tray, wrestled it free and the tray opened up and the unit now works perfectly apart from the previous owner had had jabbed at the power button in a frenzy and I think has broken its mounting so it requires a little TLC to relocate it so the OFF position pops out a little more tp match the other buttons. Oh well thats as they say is how the cookie crumbles.

Back on to Ebay to take advantage of the £1 listing weekend later, loads more stuff to sale, not crap though but decent working equipment some TEA related other will be computer or audio related :-+
