Indeed. On mine it looks like I'm going to have to pull the entire attenuator board out again  :'(

I'm hoping another better one comes along so I can use it as a parts mule  :-DD

arrg. You bastard. You just HAD to post that link.  |O Here I was just sipping my coffee, blissfully ignorant...

Now I have a whole morning's reading to do before I continue with my testing; and it looks like I need to buy some caps that I can find datasheets for to do testing. And now I HAVE to find my battery for my AD584LH board and check my 189 BEFORE I do that vref adj.

Welcome to my shitlist, beeyotch. ;)

Re-capped the PSU on the Fluke 8050A. No drama here. It worked fine before and after the re-cap. There are a few tants tucked up under that main board but I really don't want to pull those boards apart unless I'm forced to.

I also realized that the Fluke 8010A has had some tants replaced but the not the PSU caps. That's in que to get done but I have some other things I want to work on first.

I assumed that you had seen those threads already

I thought I had read all the relevant threads too...  :palm: There's just a SEA of content on this thing now; it's like trying to sip from a firehose.  |O

I was planning to do very little except drink coffee and try not to lose my mind, being I'm sick as the proverbial dog today. Then BravoV posted a link to a thread... that had links to several threads... and then I got sucked down the rabbit-hole.  :palm:

What's this about a vref adjustment then?

I've been eyeing the DE-5000 for a while, but have to admit the missing components are turning me off. I want solid kit, not the adequate kit Cerebus mentioned.

Get better quick. Earlier this week I had a pinched nerve in my right shoulder and it hurt like hell. Much better now with just a slight discomfort.

Dude... don't be so possessive. ;)

I was into The Matrix before www.whatisthematrix.com. When it was still a B&W manga by Geoff Darrow and Neil Gaiman, with a MUCH less hopeful outlook. The Wachowskis and their empire have successfully retconned the internet for the most part, but I LIVED through the thing from beginning to end; WB published the website on my birthday in 1998 with the entire comic, but I'd already found bits & pieces elsewhere and was hungry for more. I printed every single page one by one over a dialup connection so I could share it with my friends; you wanna talk dedication? Puh-leeeze.  :P

I kid you not and it surprised me. I thought those beaded tants were dry and solid. It felt slimy when I put it down and the area around it became wet for several minutes then evaporated. If you blow up that picture you will see the stain it left on the poster board.

Edit...full size  2nd edit....there also appears to be a crack in it. I already tossed it so I can't confirm.

TEA time, in multiple senses.

I've been looking for a Power Designs 2020 for a little while. The brushed ali front panel looks so pornographic, and the thought of being able to set a low noise PSU in 1mV steps is too much to resist. Proper knobs and digital - what more could I possibly want?

The first picture shows the fleabay advert. Knobs missing and a bit suspicious that only the front panel is shown, but at least the voltmeter matches the dials. Bought it for £8 (+£50 P&GSP :( ), about the same as they cost here unpowered up.

The second picture shows it as it arrived. Not surprised about the case :) Checked it was working using a variac set to 115V. (Me a pessimist?)

Rewired it for 240V; back to the "good" old days of unsoldering/resoldering transformer primary windings.
Tweaked the internal zero/cal trimpots. Well, I say trimpots, but they are mounted on the case and have locknuts :) Well, what else would you use with an LM399 voltage reference?
Everything works beautifully, and it is certainly accurate enough to calibrate 3.5 digit DVMs.

The final picture shows it after tarting up with car spray and a couple of knobs I've had lying around since the 80s. I will deem it evidence that hoarding is worthwhile, cough.

Well satisfied. Now there's absolutely no reason to keep the Farnell, just in case.

EDIT: forgot to point out that the indicators are neons (not LEDs), and they flash to indicate an overload. There's something homely about neons.

Although you can dial up voltages in 1mV steps, the 1mV vernier pot allows voltages to be tweaked to microvolt levels. Once set at, say 100mV, the value stays rock solid at 0.100000V, as measured on an HP DVM with 1uV resolution. In contrast, eyeballing my Tenma PSU gives 50uVpp variations.

There's somethiing just right about these PSUs; definitely a keeper.

Woot. Just snagged me a new toy for an all too reasonable 80 smackers. Guess I can't sell that 7603 now  :-DD

And thus the 7xxx collection starts, probably followed by the divorce. Meh I'll sleep with my 7603  :-//

Now to find an SA graticule for it.

Oh same seller has sampling plugins and all sorts. This month could get very expensive.
