Yep 12Ghz is extremely high for a rg58 cable with BNC connectors. The cable probably attenuate the signal below the minimum power needed by the freq counter to operate correctly. The counter probably need -30 or -20 dBm min I guess.

The bat cave came up flat, as I typical dont play with this kind of gear. Anyone want to sell me some worthy cables or shall I have to resort the eBay? (someone please sell me a set, I would like to keep the cash within the community). Unless of course, eBay is where they all come from anyway.

Another TEA item is this BIRD Power Analyzer Model 4391. I haven't powered it up, because I have not read the manual but its super clean ( I didnt clean it) so I have a feeling it was used quite often. There are a few load cells for it and some "blank" cells as well. Shall we play with them?

Normally I get mine from ebay. Principally use Rg402 (blue jacket) semi-rigid cables with sma connectors and adaptors (bnc, type-n). Less flexible than normal coax but insertion loss is a lot lower.

So much to do still. I have an HP3456A with error 3 that has to be pinned down, I have the video to do, I have shit to box up (almost done) and ship tomorrow, I have shit to photograph and post to evilBay; feels like work. You all should pool together some cash and send someone to get the rest of this shit (gorgeous electronics gear) and I can be done with it. No thanks not true, I love playing and learning, but the more I learn, the less willing I get to sell stuff. What were we about to play with? (yes I have having a few 'sodas' as I am up and playing).

Anyone need a HP3437A system voltmeter? Trade ya for some nice RF & high Freq cables? Really I don't need it, so pay post and leave a note below. (you may enjoy my soda ramblings).

One bit of TEA truth (from the old Fluke multimeters thread):
'Thanks for the great explanation.  I will look into them. '
is a polite euphemism for
'that guy must be totally nuts - he knows the T&M accessory manufacturer catalogues by heart!'

Oh, come on... Look at the hand work that goes into each one. People spend hundreds of dollars on vintage tubes, none of which are as effing huge and crisp as these. That's $400/tube, and they throw in the rest of the clock for free.

And the guy figured out how to make them again... rediscovered that lost art... from effing SCRATCH. Let him at least make a living doing it.

We all sat around talking about it; this guy DID it.

Well maybe we just found the reason why they don't make nixie tube anymore  ^-^

We had a microwave lab at work, and even down in the 2 GHz region it was often necessary to tighten connectors (SMA or N) with a wrench to get good low-SWR signal transfer.  I won't even go into the shenanigans we had to go through to get the 18 GHz upper limit on one of our EWR antennas.   :scared:  Testing individual cables, replacing connectors, using relative measurements because we didn't have all calibrated gear at the frequency we needed...  It was voodoo.    ::)

Well Id like to see 18GHz on this counter, so please take out your leftover voodoo gear and poke a few things in the ass so this can happen. Even sacrfice a small animal if you need too...(as long as you eat it, right?).

HP5300 based. Interesting modular system top and tail or add a battery module. In my case strap a GPSDO to the top and LiPo battery power the lot instead of using a UPS to keep it alive when the power goes down. Shame they didn't use the dot display on the 8 digit 5300 too.

Yeah, if they had done eight digits of dots, there'd be one in my collection already.

Most likely will be putting the dot one on the market with the 50 Meg bottom (if it works) as I only really wanted the battery section from it. Postage from the USA was 4 times the cost of the unit  :palm: The other was Australian sourced.
