Now you have finished watching Nixie tubes watch this one from a thread from late last year.

Added that, too.

I have an HP3456A with error 3 that has to be pinned down

Yeah, now that we know it's the inguard logic at fault, I'm curious which chip is the culprit.

Quote
Anyone need a HP3437A system voltmeter? Trade ya for some nice RF & high Freq cables? Really I don't need it, so pay post and leave a note below. (you may enjoy my soda ramblings).

Thanks, I already have a couple. :palm: My plan is to use one to add digital amplitude measurement to my good old analog scope. See section 3-53, Oscilloscope Accuracy Enhancement.

Oh, yeah; the Dalibor nixie tube video is almost 4 years old, I figured it had been seen on eevBlog somewhere. Honestly, no idea how I missed it myself for so long.  :-//

That Pilotron tube though... while eminently more primal, and actually being an active device... is quite the accomplishment as well. What I've been able to glean online however indicates that this type of valve was more a curiosity, a proof of concept rather than an actual viable amplifier... I'll admit I don't understand how his figures of trans-conductance equate into how much gain:load it is capable of.

Anybody here with better understanding of flying electron technology have any insight?  :-//  :-//  :-//

Interesting the 5300 A (Dot) or B (7 segment) are fairly cheap (if you ignore the freight) and lots of interesting variations on modules. The Battery/Dot one was only $19USD  :o

Search of the NY Metro Craigslist turned up this gem among the overpriced assorted Tek 453's (Not interested). But due to my forced retirement before all the financing was in place I'll have to pass for now.  ::) It's about 2 hours away and I'd gladly make the road trip. If it's still for sale at the end of next month (doubtful) it's gonna be in my collection.   :-+

I know that feeling about forced retirement, it sure sucks don't it. Many things you want to do have to be carefully considered, damm it[emoji17]

Well Id like to see 18GHz on this counter, so please take out your leftover voodoo gear and poke a few things in the ass so this can happen. Even sacrfice a small animal if you need too...(as long as you eat it, right?).

We weren't lacking for signal sources - we had one of those 8620C swept signal generators with the 2-18 GHz plugin.  The signal was fed into an amplifier and thence to a horn, so there wasn't much loss on that end.  The problem was getting the return signal back ~100 feet from the antenna, sitting on a 3-axis positioner with a rotary coupling at the top.  Scientific-Atlanta made out like bandits selling us that rig, and we still had to run expensive cables back to the receiver... or else try to get a calibrated bolometer up there that we could trust to behave in temperatures varying between 0 and 40° C.  We trusted the cables more.   :-\

I don't have anything here which would generate a signal at that frequency, but it sounds like you're more in need of a way to get it to the counter.  Too bad there aren't any hamfests down that way for another month or so.... :(

Yeah I nearly picked up one at a hamfest here recently. The basic 80Mhz counter one. But he wouldn’t budge from £40 even though everything was untested apparently so I walked on.

Sure does suck. I would have to dip into other accounts to buy it and I really don't want to do that. If it can't be accommodated within the current rolling cash flow then it's going to have to wait.  :--

Yeah this training is “how to lock yourself into Amazon’s platform”. People are just lining up for this shit and bending over.

eBay isn’t totally dead. Got some good shit on the watch list after this weekend.

Currently semi retired for the second time after leaving my last 'real job' 15+ years ago. 'Lack of time' is the biggest issue along with the reduced income. When you are not pressed into a schedule of 5 days a week you can walk to the shops or sleep in or do X Y or Z or nothing at all. Until recently I fixed that by working 7 days a week and still doing less hours than I used to.

Would I ever go back to a real job again - not bloody likely  ;D

Which ones?

(Far more interesting than retirement planning/whinging :) )
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

Been a while, so just to keep my TEA status up heres some more pics. I bought a wire rack shelf and put it on my table, reallocating some equipment and still leaving myself a 19" space on which to work. Then finally a picture of my current monitor set up because i think it's mildly impressive, i labored a bit over whether to show that one but all thats shown is innocuous. Unless monitor addiction is treated differently that other addictions around here.

Sheesh, Mrs GreyWoolfe looks askance at me for 3 monitors on my company laptop. :-DD  The look on her face when I told her I was considering a 4th was priceless.
