Update on the Solartron 7150 meters.

Ran some extensive tests on their calibration and I'm pleased to say that are both within acceptable limits of calibration, one will need a re-cal soon I think and the good news is that I could do it myself via the front push buttons, just like the HP3468A and 3478A meters so that's an advantage.

The other issues with both meters, apart from the dodgy filter units, now replaced, was the LCD displays could be difficult to read in some light conditions. The display did have some yellow inefficient LEDs and they could only be seen in the middle of the night with the lights off, (the camera actually made these appear far better then they were in reality), not a good idea to work with no lights  :-DD.

The solution was to replace these LEds with some ultra bright white ones and after a struggle these are now installed and the meters have been transformed completely now as these photos show. Overall was it a wise move to purchase these unseen from an online auction, I would say a resounding yes to that and unlike the Solartron 7045 meter I got off ebay last year, these two have far better plastics used in the construction of their cases. :-+    :phew:

We had two failures of the Solartron 7150 meters at work, one of them was the mA range giving a different negative reading with the leads swapped, calibration decided it was BER.
Another one decided to blew it's fuses, an autopsy revealed one of the reed relay coils was cremated along with a full bridge rectifier in the PSU, not sure what was the cause, I didn't see this one fail as I had left the lab for a few minutes at the time.

Hard to pick just one. But purely from an emotional perspective it would be this one. Why? Because prior to it showing up in 2015 I was essentially inactive in the hobby. And this 2465 DMS needed repair and I had to seek out help via net which eventually lead me to here. And it's been down hill ever since.  :-DD :-DD

Not going to even begin to list meters though.  :palm:
Likewise! :palm:
Oh, go on list your meters, that’s my weak spot. I have far more meters than I actually need, then hear Dave Jones voice whispering in my, “You can never have too many meters” so I get another and another and so it goes on. I think I need to let some go, no more space.☹️

Naaahhhh... "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." I feel no need to add to Murphy's spoils today.  ;) And my back remembers the LAST TIME I tried to do a family portrait with all my meters.   :phew:

I'm behind on reading blogs at the moment.

The Tekwiki for the Pacific Measurements 1038 system is moving forward at full blast.   :box:

I figured I'd promote for membership (enjoy yourself... I'm not nit picky) and have a central source for resources, experiences, history or whatever insight they'd like to share regarding Pacific Measurements and Wavetek Systems.  Thanks in advance for your time and support!   :-+

That requires me to log in to farcebook (or less polite names), so sorry, that's of no use to me.

Same here... FurkBook is a toxic wastedump. I pulled the plug there years ago when I discovered what colossal timesink it is; long before we discovered what an utter fuckstick Zuckerberg, et al were being with people's personal data.  :palm:

I just unearthed a Wavetek SAM Jr. 450 I used to use back in the day for troubleshooting hospital/hotel cable TV; not sure it has any real use nowadays, aside from being a clunky "retro" FM radio with poor sesitivity and selectivity...  :palm: It uses a 12-cell 500mAH "AA" NiCd pack... and the battery compartment has plenty of room for 4 18650 cells plus a BMS board. I just did a quick wipedown and cleaned the volume/tuning pots... yup. Barely receives a VERY local Spanish-language Jesus station; not even enough to deflect the meter using the FM dipole antenna on the wall from my stereo.  :P

It'll detect carrier if I key up my 'feng in close proximity, and it detects something very strong around (It's hard to tell... the scale doesn't go that low) 2-3MHz ... maybe WWV?

Hmmm...

Probably zero Hz, where your LO is at the MF frequency.

Well, the thing is supposed to go down to like 1500KHz, but not calibrated on the dial. Where I'm picking this up is a little below 4MHz, so guessing 2.5-2.8MHz. But it's probably a local oscillator in the unit, I think, since engaging the atten does nothing. I thought maybe picking up its own 3.58 MHz crystal, but couldn't find one anywhere in it.

Tuner is interesting construction, though, for '80s-'90s vintage electronics.

They're only living there for the moment while I finish sorting the cupboard out. The fireplace is actually disconnected as it's dangerous so it never gets turned on. The 2225 and 2235 are going shortly. 2225 isn't a lot of use for me and I've just about had enough of the 2235 now  :-DD

I am totally scoped out. Feel like I need a change from Tek to be honest. I've actually lost count of the number of 4xx scopes I've gone through now. Has to be at least 20  :-DD

Maybe lucky with HP. TBH I absolutely need a decent SA at the moment. Decent being one not 30 years old and limping with decent RBW. I tried to build a 70MHz LPF with the TF2015 and my power sensor. It's certainly doable but would be sooooooo much easier with an SA and TG. But they ain't cheap and I have other things I really need to buy. But then again it could be a "fuck it" and live with the consequences purchase  :-//

Well I'm not scoped out. I'm just getting started.  ;D

Dr. Frankenstein here at work. The first organ harvest out of the 465B parts mule.  >:D Both channel attenuator switch decks with the vertical switch board attached.

Are they any good? Channel 1 (top deck) showed some issues. Channel 2 is PERFECT.  :-+ Solid DC continuity on all switch ranges. That will soon be transplanted into the 465B/DM44 with the fubar channel 2 deck.

Been juggling back and forth between TEA stuff and domestic stuff. Total redecoration of the bath plus complete repaint (ceiling and walls). Turned out damn nice if I say so myself.  ;D   Soon will tackle the kitchen. That will get a repaint too.

Both several years ago when they used all day every day, I was a bit annoyed that calibration couldn't really be bothered with the first one, BER was easier for them. We never had the line filters smoke as they were never disconnected from the mains unless needing calibration and the lab is also kept at a constant temperature & humidity.
I believe we had four of them in total, the failed ones will either still be in the storeroom or may have been sent for e-waste recycling.

Nothing gets much use now since management at the site I work at decided they didn't want 99% of the electronic work mid last year. Hence why I have most of the racks of components in the shed, I keep meaning to ask about some redundant test gear but I don't really have much space and it's at no risk of being chucked out anytime soon as far as I know.

Oh, OK, that's a shame, I might have been interested in them if they were going for scrap or something, might have made good parts mules.
