You have to trade off current with inductance so you might have to put a few in series.

Thanks! Bookmarked.

Fuck! Completely forgot about that! Wasn’t me :(

That's a pity! sad to hear that.  :(

But since you are looking for some vacuum tube boat anchors, here are some pictures of my
very small collection of electron tubes (yes, in german they are called "tubes" or "electron tubes")

This is the four-man-band:

This is the front crew, on the left a E 80 CC or  6085 (needed for my R&S VTVM) and on the right a EF 12K.
This tube is usually used as a HF oscillator tube but it is also used in some very nice vacuum tube microphones.

This big boy is a pentode from Siemens, the RS684, used as transmitter tube for shortwave

And this one is the russian clone of the RS684, the GU-81M
With this tube, a friend of mine and me built a 750W average transmitter for the 3.5 .. 3,8MHz band.

More valve porn is needed. I collect interesting tubes as well, but I have none that are that large.  :-+

@bd139
So, finally you've sniped the HP 209A oscillator? Congrats    :-+   :D
Fuck! Completely forgot about that! Wasn’t me :(

Wasn't me either, I already have two 200CD vacuum bulb oscillators and the 211A square wave version too.

Ok it's Sunday afternoon, I've had a couple of beers and I'm now looking at boat anchors with valves in them  :-DD

This thread is definitely an enabling thread.  :-DD

Edit: my excuse is that winter is coming and of course I need something to keep the place warm :D

BTW....see that large object in the center of the pix that looks like a transformer? It's actually a filter choke. It looks like a transformer but only has 2 leads coming out the same side. It's used in a vacuum tube B+ supply to provide additional filtering in addition to the capacitors.

I need one, about that size. New ones are quite pricey. If someone has one floating around in their junk box I'll gladly take it off your hands for cost of shipping plus.
I've got a least a couple, I'll measure them later and come back to you.
Can't Hipot test them so you'd have to take your chances.

Only one tube that's of any interest here (I'm not pulling the CRT out of my Tek 922 to show it off, because who would care?).

I can't find any info on the net about it, but I was told it's a power tetrode and I know it was used in a microwave transmitter design.  Just odd enough to be interesting to me.

Gonna be an interesting evening in a few minutes. A line of nasty thunderstorms headed this way. Already multiple fire calls for trees down, wires down, transformers on fire, etc.  :o :scared:

I have a shutdown procedure here which pretty much isolates everything from the AC line. Sounds like I'm going to have to pull the plug for a while. My police/fire scanner has battery backup so I can keep listening.

Edit....Yep, getting nasty...shutting down.

I am back. The weather front blew thru that quickly. And very lucky. Was watching the front on radar on my phone. There was a severe cell 2 miles north and another 1 mile south. This location in between with some wind and lots of rain. Still raining but no wind.

The 911 center is currently overwhelmed with calls. Mucho power outages with trees down, roads blocked, small fires and a few houses hit by lightning. There's going to be lots of folks tonight with no power, no fans, no A/C and the storms didn't cool it off all that much. Gonna take the power company probably all night and into tomorrow to catch up. Luckily my power flashed twice but stayed on.  :phew:

Here's photos of a few more interesting thermo-ionic valves or tubes as they may be known.

The small stepped one marked 2C40 is known as a lighthouse tube and is a high frequency triode.

The Gammatron VT-127A is also a triode that would handle higher power (100 watts). The amount of glass blowing to make that tube would make it cost a lot today.

The last tube, that I've shown before somewhere, looks like a CRT for an oscilloscope but there is no screen to view. There is a fine screen mesh in front of a steel plate where the viewing screen would be and it was used as a memory device in the 1940s. By scanning like you'd do in a CRT TV system, you could check to see if locations were ionized during a write scan and if that location was, that location would be a binary '1'. Theoretically it could store about 16K bits but in practice, it was far less.

Here's my collection of radio and microwave specific tubes. From left:

JAN Sylvania 1625/VT-136, WWII era transmitter tube, apparently used in aircraft radios according to my research.
GE GL-2040, I think is a civil market version of the GL-446A lighthouse tube
(behind lighthouse) RCA JAN CRC-832A, a double beam tetrode for VHF
Westinghouse WL-417, a reflex klystron
An actual JAN GL-446A in it's box, dated August 17, 1944
Another JAN CRC-832A
JAN RCA 8025, an air cooled UHF transmitting triode, which can operate either as an oscillator or an amplifier and deliver 50W at 400 MHz. Apparently the plates are supposed to glow red when at full power.  :o

Just canned my 2m activity here. Pulled the sodding slim jim down, packed up the HT and will chuck it on ebay. Started with someone making chicken noises on the local repeater. When he got bored, someone else turned up, a G-prefix, QSY'ed off to another frequency with an M7 and spent ten minutes bitching about that, "Baofeng dick heads", then a pro brexit political rant. The other dude just turned his radio off by the sounds :palm:. I was in lurk mode so decided not to participate this evening.
Still wanting to make transmitters and receivers? Strikes me that in every walk of life there some utter nutters out there and thankfully, there are not to many of them in this community, though I have to say I think I have come across one particular person who seems to hide behind a fake ID and and location and pops up now and then and poses a dumb question just to start a debate and then they go dark on it  :palm:

There's a couple of individuals here on blog who have a "holier than thou" attitude and their shit don't stink and their word is the final say.  :blah: ::) Luckily they do not participate in this thread.

I occasionally venture outside of the TEA House (shocking, I know). It can get quite woolly in some threads. :o Then, I return home. :phew:
