LOL! Cerebus beat me to it! I was thinking the same thing; also amused by the juxtaposition of all this lovely turn of the last century instrumentation with such mundane modernities as a Garmin pocket GPS and a  Fluke PM3082  'scope plopped right in the middle..  :P

I've looked at that auction, there is a nice Fluke 4 channel scope, with probes and manual with auctioneers estimate of £50 to £80 on it, 100Mhz, I don't know enough to be able to comment on the comms gear on offer.

@mnem - 'that'll do pig..... ' - a great movie 'Babe'

Re teenage boy fantasy - 'Barbara Eden' - a powerful woman but not aggressive - and those eyes! Mmmmmm

That Tek museum destruction is an electronic test equipment rights violation - I hope for the audio-phools the price of oxygen free copper unidirectional cables goes up! Some people have no soul.

Re politics - I try not to pay attention - that's what they want you to do, then they are winning. I have found it rarely makes a big difference to my real life. Except make me upset.

This is the IEC filter, a Schaffner FN326-01/07 which is, of course, discontinued.
Date code is saying 9005 so it is a good idea to replace it.

I'm going to replace it with a Schaffner FN9222-1-07 which I ordered @ Mouser

UK auction alert: heathkit, some test gear, lots of amateur and vintage radio stuff and lots of cool old scientific instruments: https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/david-duggleby-scarborough/catalogue-id-srda10351/search-filter?archivesearch=False

Oh God! I just looked at that and the first few things triggered my desire to start collecting lovely brass and wood old scientific instruments. The TEA is bad enough, I cannot start collecting those as well.  :scared:

How about collecting sperm whale teeth?  :o

*now getting out this IEC thing*  :-/O

Anything above about 10 years old is pushing it. 20 is probably worth shouting Allāhu akbar before you turn it on.

Thanks.

That's my favourite type of playground! playing hunt the tant inside a Tek 7L12  :-DD

Soooo regret selling that Tek mainframe now  :-DD

That's a norcal rig, right?  And what is that plug-in?

That is indeed. It's a souped up Norcal 40A clone. Plugin is a Tek 7L12 100K -> 1.8GHz spectrum analyser in 7603 mainframe which I don't own now  :'(

It's not a tracking generator BTW - that's a noise generator through the LPF and into the SA.

Norcal close up.

Enclosure was replaced after the first photo as I wasn't happy with the board placement.

Well, I picked up a TLA714 with a TLA7N4 and a TLA7E2. I don't think I needed it, but man, I really wanted it. Can't wait for it to arrive so I can use roughly 1/100th of it's power :)

So while I was away, I became afflicted with a severe case of TN syndrome. This led to extensive ESI and ultimately, the first steps along the road to more serious problems.

Here's how my addiction started....

First I found an HP 3325A...

Added the 3325A and 5443A to the POI along with the OCXO upgrade. :-+

No, no, no... you have that wrong. A volt-mutt is the polar opposite of a volt-nut. The guy for whom "Fluke sez BAM!!!" is good enough... preferably 4-5 digit Flukes at most. ;) You've fallen so far down the rabbit-hole no mutt can dig you out.  :scared:

And...BAM! Added to the glossary. ;D

Me too. Having Lego as a kid I like to make test gear.

Talking of which, this years project is the long talked about DIY HF spectrum analyser. Just dropped some cash on minicircuits stuff (VCO, 2 mixers) to start with. Will work on front end LPF while they’re winging their way to me. Now I’ve got the nanovna it makes aligning bits of it massively easier!

Right on. I'm looking forward to your Lego spectrum analyzer, bd! >:D

Today my Fluke / Philips PM6681 arrived. Including a nice ring file with the owner's manual and the programmer's manual.

I've powered it on first before I turned it apart. The  vent is a bit loud, perhaps it has some issues with the  bearing.

Front side, feeded in 10MHz from my RTB 2004:

From the "Idle Hands Are the Devil's Playthings" Dept...

It's in there. ASUS Radeon HD 3870 in an otherwise bone-stock HP p7-1243 PC. Not bad, considering the stock PSU doesn't have a PCIe power tap... well, it didn't until I carved one out of an old ATX power connector and hacked the PSU to put it in there. >:D

All 4 gigs of RAM now available, instead of 3.3. And streaming video is butter-smooth with none of those horrible APU-video blocky artifacts.

But... there were casualties. A couple mm off the tip of a thumb (just enough to bleed for the bitch ;)) and now she tips the scales at a beefy US$40 (32" screen included). Oh, the horror. :-DD But soon comes the real big ticket item... $17 for another 4GB of RAM off slAmazon...  :scared:

Now that I have it watchable as a TV, I can move on to the next step in my plans for this little beast... to use as a test-bed for the various VPN services available here and see which are actually sufferably reliable to get my Hulu back.  :-+

LOL... You WOULD ask.  :-DD

I bled all over the inside of the PSU, which is what cut me... I probably missed some somewhere cleaning up.  :P

I'm afraid this is as close to gory detail as I can muster at this late stage of the game... I kindof had to wash my hands when I made dinner.

Nice, blunt, no-need-for-sharpy-things frozen lasagna.  ;D
