I will second the 957DW. I have one and it is a good entry level piece of gear.  I only wish the hose was easily removable because I have to store it when I am not using it.

Cool - that's the one I'll get then. Thanks guys! (Attachment Link)

+1.  It works well but my issue with it that the hose is very stiff and it's hard to keep it on the rest.  I had a Yihua 858D and it is a huge upgrade.

Some more TEA time. Today: Agilent E5810A - GPIB / RS232 to IP bridge

This is a nice little device which will help me (hopefully) doing one day lots of measurements for my LTFLU-1 devices.

Thanks Zucca for the hint.  :-+

Overview of the inside, not very exciting so far.

I did a little testing with my 34401A, measured the 5V coming from a DMMcheck r3

First, the welcome page:

Then, after getting a little bit familiar with this SCPI commands I got this:

Best regards!

Random Friday evening self designed 3d prints for PCB prototyping...

......

I'm loving this printer and FreeCAD. Autodesk can go to hell  :-DD

The real killer feature is the ability to make new tools with it.

The 858D is another of the "fan in the handle" models... I personally hate them. Much prefer the "hose-job" models; you can feel the work better without the vibration.

Oh I've been where you are over the years but there are distinct advantages to living in an apartment.

Begin.  ;D

Leak? Call the landlord.

No heat? Call the landlord.

Dryer in laundry room squealing like a pig? Call the landlord.Remove stray pig from dryer.
End.  :-DD

who needs seven digit DMMs, gigahertz signal generators, or four channel storage scopes to work on when you can spend the day dis-assembling a large household appliance?

i lived for taking apart stuff like this when i was a kid.  fifty years later and i can do it without getting grounded for a month.  ;D

  • Lots of engineer-tweakable parts inside!

Checked out my 53310A a bit today. It's a little dirty and there's some burn-in on the CRT, but still looks good. Man it's bigger than I was expecting. Much wider than my 8560E, but fortunately not as long.

The listing showed that it was failing the trigger light test for the A2 board. Sure enough, it did that when I ran the self-test. Checking the DAC parameters, the offset looked like it was at default values, so I let it measure and set new offset values and bingo! All tests pass now.

After taking these photos, I noticed that the first pic shows "ref error" in the bottom-right status area. It was the first time I saw it. Normally, it says "ref int" and when I turned it on and off a few times, the error didn't return. Upon leaving it for a while, it shows "ref error" again at first power on and eventually switched to "ref int". So, it seems that it needs a little time to lock onto the internal clock reference.

I'm actually a big fan of 5000 series scopes, the faster 54xx ones are quite useful around the shack.

Big displays, easy to work on, reasonably priced compared to their 7000 bretheren

thread here https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tektronix-5000-series-(1970-1990-era)-shenanigans/

the TEA compatible 5k Tek is a 5223 with GPIB option.

Out of curiousity I've bought 3 pieces with 0.3%.
Values: 4300pF, 5900pF and 8000pF (0.5% this one)

My DER DE5000 should coming by end of month so I can do some measurements. :)

give a little box C to the voltnutz and let them do their hobby,
so you get a trustful set for calibration. Or visit me on the makerfaire hannover, right side from my bunch of oldies is always the calibration table from the PTB  :)
Henrik have enough cal bells + whistles to do that for you.  :)  (if not you get a free chair on my Hickok Digital System  ;D )

Though I converted that dryer into a large pile of small pieces, I never did find the pig. But it has stopped squealing, so it doesn't matter, I guess, unless someone around here wants to do some laundry.   ;D

Can it perform an FM deviation measurement? If it does can you show me a pic of that screen? I want a unit that will do that measurement directly.
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

Ugh weekend two of Windows 10 upgrade hell. First weekend failure because the damn CPU won’t support Windows 10 fixed with cheap eBay core 2 jobby and now the WiFi card has no fucking drivers for Windows 10. So off to bloody Argos to buy a TP link piece of shit. This is all because the cretin who I am related to, who is incidentally wading knee deep in cash, is too cheap to buy a fucking new PC.

Edit: oh and now he’s going on about getting on WhatsApp for family photos but doesn’t want to spend more than £50 on the problem.  Currently has an ass end Nokia from the dark ages but doesn’t want a smartphone.

I am going to invoice him for this. That will make him fuck off.
