Maybe they learnt that trick from Tek after they were acquired by them.  :-//

Early tube ones were full of them.

Edit: BTW I have come to the DARK SIDE  :o

Started working through the DM502 assortment today. Though all were sold as "working" (of course), all but one fail at least one functional test (of course).  All have different origins, though two had Tektronix stickers on them.

First thing I noticed doing the physical check: three of the units had an oversized slow blow fuse in the current measurement line.  :palm:  The manual calls for a 2.5A fast blow fuse. Oddly enough, the current measurement function on these units isn't working. The fuse was blown on the fourth unit and when replaced, that function worked.

So I have one to put through the normal calibration and test procedure and three that are varying degrees of busted. The good news: these are pretty easy to diagnose and there aren't any really special parts.  For fun, I am going to try and do this project without using anything exotic other than the low voltage calibration source.

Yea, I suspect the same. I may wind up mounting the replacement in a different location but space is tight. Luckily once it's set up you shouldn't have to touch it again.

@bd139, You certainly weren't kidding about the Heathkit C-3U that I snapped up for just £35. There's one on eBay now that's gone from an opening bid of £30 to £102 currently with another 11 hours to go. Mine was shown working, this is not shown working but is supposed to be. Seems I can double my money easily if I was to put it straight back on eBay as it is  :-DD :-DD :-+

Trying to come up with a "common design" for stuff I build in the future.

Now you are headed down the Dark side proper. You were looking for Enclosures last night so checkout the Sheetmetal functionality of Fusion 360  :-DD

I attach a plaything I designed then Laser cut (you NEED one of them too ;) ) but if you want a custom look then it is worth giving it a go. Send your DXF off to a local sheetmetal company with a Laser or Plasma table and get what you really need not what you can get.

Fusion file is in the Zip below. Took me several hours and some youtube watching but it is fairly straightforward. Score lines on the cardboard are Laser engraves for crisp fold lines.
