Special effects scene from a B Drive in movie?  :-DD

Should note the Sonoff and Case I removed to the Bin yesterday makes this look tame  ;)

Since I don't have equipment racks and no room for them this is where the 8505A will reside. On top of the 535A.

Later today I'll do the tear down.

I wouldn't place the Fluke on top of the 535A because of the heat which the 535A is producing.
Wouldn't it be better to place the 8505A under the 535A?
Or are you concerned about the weight of the scope?

Keithley 238. This was about a minute after it went bang. The original smoke was, well, curtain like.

Actually the top of the 535A does not get hot nor very warm. The vast majority of the heat goes out the side vents. I have the 8505A raised slightly so air can flow under it anyway. I don't see any issues with this arrangement.

Package has done a mnem, and escaped Texas. Now in Tennessee.

Fedex normally put my Mouser deliveries in my hand no later than two working days after they escape Texas. It'll be interesting to hear when yours does actually turn up.
I just love Mouser's free Fedex shipping, and the fact that they collect VAT without anything having to disappear into Postnord's ransom system.

Yes, I'll keep the thread posted. Status right now is "bouncing around in Memphis".

FFS!

was away for a short time and return to find all the brits have turned into "statler and waldorf" from the muppet show!

and the dragon is now "the voice of reason".

screw this..........am going back down into my "fortress of solitude" and work some more on reducing noise in my 10 Ghz yig oscillator.  (actually managed to fry an lm317 yesterday.  did not expect it to fail short!)

ps  fortunately med is a never changing rock of stability.  (a blue assed NY bastard bitchin' about snow and the postal system).

So did you do an Essential road trip for that Fluke Calibrator in the end? >:D

fortunately....no.

it wasn't the distance.  it was the weight.

got rid of all my tube radios (hammerlund, collins, ect) and TE 60 lbs and over 4 years ago when we moved and downsized.

must resist temptation to backslide down that path.

I have something with a CRT that has left North Salt Lake UT. Since this isn't twitter, I won't keep you updated; hopefully it will arrive before the 18th!

Thanks.

My last order from Mouser was on March 3rd, before the Corona situation in the US got out of control. That arrived in the usual record time. It's good to know if that won't be true any more. I mean, I might want to build a third KX reference!  :-DD

Some interesting Gossen MetraWatt Nixie/Needle meters for someone in Germany. I'm very tempted, but funds are low at the moment:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/324113684527

At €76 for two of them, I'll probably regret not taking them next month.  :scared:

Well according to his article description, "the needle is all over the place". So I don't think he intentionally overloaded it.

As promised. Tear down of the 8505A. In reality there isn't a lot to see.

Top cover removed. The individual function modules. I did not pull them and risk contact issues.

The power supply.

Rear panel.

Bottom panel removed. This thing has enough shielding to survive an EMP pulse.  :o

Follow up plans: The cleaning and removal of stickers is done. Both top and bottom panels are going to get painted. Get rid of that faded beige.

The power supply will be re-capped. Once that's done and the verified investigate some minor issues noted on the 100VDC and 1000VDC ranges.

@worsthorse: The 3400 is on my list, together with either 410B or 410C. If I find a sensor setup in working order for less than $SILLY I want a 435B, too. Before that, I'm going to practice building power dividers. A lot.

My list, too. I have an HP power meter with a set of sensors. Both are allegedly working. After I finish the 3400, I am going to put it on the bench and see if it works. If it does, I will teach myself how to use it.

Edit: Listening to the morning program on the radio here. Their US correspondents carefully and with minimal sensationalism juxtapose the statements of for instance the MD state governor and the White House, but can't completely conceal their bafflement. You're in for a ride. Hold on.

Unfortunately we've been experiencing this situation for a couple of years. The difference now is that the consequences of allowing the insane clown show headquartered at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to run on without restraint are going to be orders of magnitude worse for almost everyone in the country instead of the somewhat smaller, powerless segment that was easy for others to ignore.
