An hour or so later.....

Points cleans and tweaked, Balls held in place with the use of correct tongue angle ::) all parts lubed and accounted for the 2400w Router is ready for it's next life. Even without a bit in it is a scary level of torque and potential carnage.  :scared:

10% of new price  :-+

The photo doesn't show it that well but one of the points in particular had been arcing fairly badly. The switch carries the full 2400W so I will order a new one and swap it out anyway but for the time being it is working well. The rest of it is in really good condition for a 16 year old tool :)
Coffee, Food, R/C and electronics nerd in no particular order. Also CNC wannabe, 3D printer and Laser Cutter Junkie and just don't mention my TEA addiction....

You can do better then that:

which would still make sense in practice

Finally got around to it - building a dodgy vero board for the atmel micro for the Tek Logo and Wizard - I had to put it up on a Tek! Trying to decide whether I want to box it up properly or not. Does shimmer quite a bit.

(At the risk of getting an unflattering answer...)

Do you mean the daft side or the non-daft side?

Click..click..click..click..click... ...click-clack.  Ready.

You're assuming that, amongst the bunch of monkeys you've chosen to hang out with here, that there is a non-daft side. I fear that you many be wrong.
Interesting point....

No overkill here. 6 1/2 digit continuity tester during a power tool repair ;D
Entirely understandable here.

Yeah, I see what you mean.

So, how long do I have to wait?

Ordered a new CRT-based fleabay toy on 21st March, delivery 9-18th April.

It went through the GSP and Herpes got hold of it yesterday. Got up and checked the Herpes website to find my household had signed for it 5 minutes earlier. Found it on my doorstep, with cardboard box intact. The cardboard box is in good condition externally, but is smaller than I would like.

Two questions:
  • what are the tell-tale signs that GSP might have removed outer packaging to save volume/weight?
  • how long should I wait before it is safe to open it?
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

the virus survives up to 24h on cardboard if what they tell you is true.

@tggzzz
I handle cardboard boxes as follows:
spray them off with disinfectant (IPA or similar)
let it dry
wear gloves to open it
take out content and put it into the decon box
either let it cool off for a couple of days in there or spray it down with IPA (UV-C ~250 nm wavelength exposure works as well)
let the IPA dry off - this will take a couple of minutes
after that it should be safe to handle.
dispose of gloves after use. and do not touch anything else with those gloves after handling the box.
A virus normally denaturates after being soaked in 70 - 80 % alcohol within a couple of minutes.

@cubdriver. I agree, they are a good CRO and go for reasonable money,
I have found a spec analyser more use than a scope over 50MHz!     Plus probes really don't work properly over 100MHz - unless you really are futzing around.

So I am confused but as I can think it there is 11 1/2 hours to go until the weekly chat session https://discordapp.com/channels/658020677533827101/662871717667930142 but by the Magic of Daylight Savings I think I gain a sleep in of another hour for 12 1/2 hours but if I start a countdown still 11 1/2  :scared: :=\

That's what I've heard, but I alert to the possibility of updates.

A virus normally denaturates after being soaked in 70 - 80 % alcohol within a couple of minutes.

It is unclear to me how effective alcohol is in cardboard (or other porous surface), unless the cardboard becomes visibly wet. Alcohol is a scarce resource; my usual source is on backorder until the end of May, and I wouldn't bet I could get any then.

I'm happy to leave the box+contents undisturbed in my garage for a couple of days. That leaves the contents. Well, they were packaged in Utah on 23rd March (10 days ago) and left Erlanger on 30th March (5 days ago). Provided GPS hasn't repacked it, I'd use the 10 days and be satisfied with that.

Overall, as far as I understand it, the epidemiological models indicate that sooner or later everybody will be exposed to CV. Social distancing is simply to spread out the infections and reduce the initial peak, and possibly delay infection until after vaccines/treatments are available.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

I am still wondering if that ABC protection suit will be acceptable in an office setting. Gotta go search for it, it should be somewhere in the basement.
Apart from that I have a 3M 6002 which should be arriving arrived today, and enough alcohol to make sanitizer for our team and our friends. Fortunately there is still one chemical plant that is producing loads of alcohol, and yes, the cardboard needs to be soaked.
If you do not trust the alcohol, get a UV-C lamp. UV light at the right wave length does kill any virus quite efficiently.
I don't care about those epidemiological studies, I just do not want to contract it and I can survive quite some time in my home office.

Looking at the normal clinical study cycles and the production cycles for any potential agent then:
- even fast tracked the clinical studies will take no less then 4 - 5 months, probably more like 6
- ramping up production for any antibody production will take no less than 12 weeks and the production sites are limited
- producing vaccines will also take a considerable time. We are talking biologicals, not chemicals. Synthesis of proteins is not trivial.
my best guess is: the situation may improve EOY. Probably not before. The other viable option would be to quarantine as many as possible to eliminate the transmission vectors.

I know, Gene sequencing of the virus strains is ongoing, even NVIDIA has offered their GPU based stuff for 90 days without license fees to support this. However just knowing about the RNA sequence is not enough, you must be able to produce an antibody AND be ready to do mass production AND be ready to force this into the population AND be ready to exterminate/eliminate the source of the virus

And yes, we are working on medications to control some of the damage done to the lungs of the survivors.
I cannot talk about the collaborations with J&J, Novartis, Merck, et alii, but rest assured that there is a lot of collaboration.
I have a notion that they will also offer mass production of any NBE that may come out of the research/development pipeline, but even if I knew I would not be authorized to talk about that.

Not confirmed as such but the symptoms, progression compared to others who have verifiably suffered it are exactly the same. I am awaiting the impending shit show to pass on antibody testing to make an appearance on the market before I say yes for certain.

Key defining indicators were the temperature profile, dry cough and the complete loss of taste and smell. I still can't taste black coffee which is damn annoying  >:(

About the only things that taste ok are chocolate biscuits and Doritos  :-DD

Oh, mnem's mention of Tek terminal strips reminded me of a recent Mr Carlson's Lab vid, on a Tek UT5 scope calibrator.

I do like his stuff, nice and relaxed presentation, but must admit, I'm not liking the way he seems to be constantly pimping his cap tester these days   :(

Anyone else noticed that, or am I being over-sensitive?

Precisely, he always gets a plug in almost every video. That said however he does a great presentation and really knows his subject, but sometimes I just wish he would get on with it as he seems to talk really slowly.

... but sometimes I just wish he would get on with it as he seems to talk really slowly.

That's true for almost all videos; hence I avoid them unless necessary.

CGP Grey is a notable exception: his yootoo vids are as information dense as 1970s and 1980s documentaries.
