*Teacher/lecturer speak for "I can't be arsed to explain it to you and the thinking will be good exercise for you.".

While I do agree with you regarding this reagent, a there are a lot of reagents that can kill you given the right concentration. You should not put too much potassium chloride into your system, for example. Also you should not imbibe large quantities of detergents. There have been those tide pod challenges, and several darwin awards won in the process.

There is always the question of dosage. And some stuff you only try once.

Where "common sense" fails here is in the application of another old adage: "All things in moderation." Knowing where the line lies between moderation and excess in this case requires both pretty esoteric knowledge AND the wisdom to use it properly. AVGresponding's story of getting sent to the nurse's office for drinking a test tube of saturated sodium chloride solution and the fact the nurse had to look it up is an example of how grossly we've mismanaged our education system; that someone supposedly educated enough to serve as a nurse-practitioner to our children doesn't know this one off the top of her head.

Common sense must be applied to a sufficient base of knowledge to be of value.

Und was sieht der Donaudampfschifffahrtskapitän, das auf der Ansichtskarte verewigt wird?

Donauwellen!

Along other household chores, today's project of mine (eating it at this very moment).

I know, BU508's would be several leagues upon mine, but they're sufficient for me.  ;D

Awah! They are looking great. And I'm sure, they are very tasty! So, enjoy them.  :-+

And good for you, that I don't know where your house is residing.  :-DD

we made it easier for you folks. Our higher ups have found the secrets of simple language making allowances for the decline of our culture.
It's like:
"Wir. Dienen. Deutschland."
It seems to me that the younger generation can no longer cope with sentences longer than a single word.

Aber das ist ja Bund. Ist Unterschied zwischen eins und anderes.

So was gibt es auch:

Code: [Select]
Erstes Geschoss:
Hier leben die Blinden
Die glauben was sie sehen
Und die Tauben
Die glauben was sie hören
Festgebunden auf einem Küchenhocker
Sitzt ein Irrer, der glaubt
Alles was er anfassen kann
(seine Hände liegen im Schoss)

Zweites Geschoss:
Rolle für Rolle
Bahn für Bahn
Rauhfaser tapeziert
In den Gängen stehen Mieter herum
Betrachten die Wände aufmerksam
Suchen darauf Bahn um Bahn
Nach Druck- und Rechtschreibfehlern
Könnten nicht mal ihren Namen entziffern

Auf ins nächste Geschoss:
Welches, oh Wunder! nie fertiggestellt
Nur über die Treppe erreicht werden kann

-
-
-
-
-
-
Hier lagern Irrtümer, die gehören der Firma
Damit kacheln sie die Böden
An die darf keiner ran

Viertes Geschoss:
Hier wohnt der Architekt
Er geht auf in seinem Plan
Dieses Gebäude steckt voller Ideen
Es reicht von Funda- bis Firmament
Und vom Fundament bis zur Firma
Im Erdgeschoss:
Befinden sich vier Türen
Die führen
Direkt ins Freie
Oder besser gesagt. in den Grundstein
Da kann warten wer will
Um zwölf kommt Beton
Grundsteinlegung!
Gedankengänge sind gestrichen
In Kopfhöhe braun
Infam oder katholisch violett
Zur besseren Orientierung

Dachgeschoss:
Es hat einen Schaden
Im Dachstuhl sitzt ein alter Mann
Auf dem Boden tote Engel verstreut
(deren Gesichter sehen ihm ähnlich)
Zwischen den Knien hält er ein Gewehr
Er zielt auf seinen Mund
Und in den Schädel
Durch den Schädel
Und aus dem Schädel heraus
In den Dachfirst
Dringt das Geschoss

Gott hat sich erschossen
Ein Dachgeschoss wird ausgebaut
Gott hat sich erschossen
Ein Dachgeschoss wird ausgebaut
Lüge, Lüge
Ein Dachgeschoss wird ausgebaut

EPILOG

Untergeschoss:
Dies ist ein Keller
Hier lebe ich
Dies hier ist dunkel
Feucht und angenehm
Dies hier ist ein Schoss

Haus der Lüge

that was in 89. Times have changed.
One of my favorite songtexts is:

Kven skal synge meg?
I daudsvevna slynge meg
Når eg på helvegen går
Og dei spora eg trår
Er kalde så kalde
Eg songane søkte
Eg songane sende
Då den djupaste brunni
Gav meg dråpar så ramme
Av Valfaders pant
Alt veit eg Odin
Kvar du auge løynde ...

No Datron 1281 for me. The auction went crazy in the last minute (as always) and ended at 12,611kr - way too rich for me.

Indeed it did, pretty close to my maximum bid  ;)

Not to rub it in or anything, but it's now up and running in front of me and passes self test. Repair method was "poke at ROM pins with scope probe". I think it must have been a poor socket connection.

Turns out the seller once worked at the same place I do, and that's where the unit came from before he got it. Must be a sign that it was meant for me..
Also a sign that you have more disposable money than grizewald

Finally got around to it - building a dodgy vero board for the atmel micro for the Tek Logo and Wizard - I had to put it up on a Tek! Trying to decide whether I want to box it up properly or not. Does shimmer quite a bit.
Rob

Any idea who is still selling the programmed chip (or where can I download the binary) ?

Have you checked out this website?
https://vintagetek.org/vintagetek-demo-board/

-
Since the vintageTEK Museum is closed for the near future, we may not have access to our stock, so we must put the store on vacation indefinitely. Many of the manuals we sell in paper form are available on the tekwiki site at w140 dot com.
-

Have checked their evilbay store before and all sold out  :-//

Yes, they sell (or sold) the ATMEL pre-programmed; they don't have the code posted anywhere. I'm certain SOMEBODY has extracted it and shared it somewhere; this project is decades old. But so far, I have not found it in the wilds of the intardnet. :-//

In my intermittent quest to understand these elusive (because they're usually fried) and crazy expensive (when not fried) HP 478A/8478B thermistor mounts, I scored a batch of three mystery mounts (one 8478 and two 478) and they arrived today.

FedEx didn't even bother to ring the doorbell when they delivered it. I guess that's their version of social distancing. ::)

The two 478 peg my HP 432A meter all the way to the right. Probably fried. The 8478, though, does zero. Letting it warm up now to see how stable it is. It's drifting pretty good on the 0.03 mW range since it's been outside. If that settles, I'll see if it holds on the lowest range, 0.01 mW. The 478 that came with my 432 meter drifts on the low ranges, so it'll be interesting to see if this 8478 does better.
I TEA.

The same common sense thinking that means the layman would regard SDS as lethal if only given my description up to the pause, is the same thinking that causes overreactions to ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation (5G death waves), and the like. Common sense is great, but only when dealing with the commonplace - which for us ground dwelling monkeys is things that we've had hundreds and thousands of years to get used to. For more modern stuff it can fail us.

A fitting example: I once stumbled (this was when my children were in preschool/daycare) on a person claiming to be on a sort of crusade against chemicals! in the environment, especially around our children.

I decided to point out that my children were surrounded by a very chemical chemical, Silicon dioxide. They even played in it, and were encouraged to do so by daycare staff. And we all know what hurt can come from a dioxide. Sounds chemical. Right? And silicon, that stuff that implants are made of, and bathrooms are caulked with. Gotta be LETHAL.

Anyway, I'd gotten the individual pretty worked up when I decided to pull the plug on it, and let the person know that sand is a chemical.  My honesty was not rewarded.  Got more than a chuckle out of it, though.
