I’ve done the same. I had a box of transformers I regularly attacked for wire because I was too cheap to buy some  :-DD

Nice hack that actually. Fancy fixing the USB-C on my T470?  :-DD

Some cross pollination of skills there  :-DD

TE/computing hybrid job over the next few days. I’ve got some good and new Panasonic 18650 cells here and a duff X201 9 cell pack. Rebuild time.

Alas I know the difficulties involved in this after much research. Firstly I need to crack it open. Then locate which controller it is. Then try and dump the controller data off using I2C. Then strip the cells out, tag up some new ones (super capacitor weldinator at the ready!). Then cram them in. Then deal with the inevitable suicide fuse. Then reprogram the remaining capacity and cycle count. Then cross fingers and hope it is recognised, fire stays inside and charges!

Probability of all that working: 30% I reckon.

And then I’ll probably never use it  :-DD

Sell the Panasonic cells on fleaBay (or to your local Vape shop), then use the money to buy two new Lenovo packs and a cheeseburger happy meal. Much more profitable use of your time and the cells.  :-DD

Yes that was rather annoying that swap. I really liked the proper thinkpad keyboards mostly because of the real keys and the escape key being separate. Makes it easier to run vi then :)

Yes, it's always good to have Esc located so that it's easy to smash repeatedly during a vi session, without tripping a bunch of neighboring keys.

I’ve had fuck all luck out of even genuine new thinkpad batteries that have been sitting around for years.  Usually drop dead after a few months. Where do you think I got all these nice 18650’s from?  :-DD

In other trivia, our thread now contains 2.8% of all posts and 0.28% of total views. Interesting coincidence in digits.

Ok so X201 screw it. I’m going to shove the naff battery and an SSD in it and bounce it on eBay. Can’t be arsed  :-DD. That may pay for 1/3 of a 34401A at some point  :-+

Personally I found the vi(le) "key" :q! to be the most useful.

This simple fettling is my meditation. Believe it or not, I still do most of this kind of microsoldering (down to ~0.5mm pitch or so) with the naked eye. Turned out well; nice & tidy. Bonus points it actually works! :-DD Yes, I know this controller is nasty; I'll clean it thoroughly before it goes back together like I did the blue one when I first got it.

Working on the blue one now; Hmmmm.... that light in the one picture means my PS3 has been on upstairs for about 3 hours... D'OH! :o

From the Goin' Postal Dept:

Hmmmm... glad that's ONLY all my 3DP parts I've been waiting on for over a week and not a ventilator or somesuch in that shipment...   :palm:

Welp...  I just bought an HP 8643A Sig Gen from the teetering-on-the-edge ebay guy linked here a few days ago.  Threw a relatively low bid in; never thought I'd get it.  $96 plus shipping.  Holy crap, I'm out of my mind!   ::)

I wholeheartedly agree. I never understood why my colleagues insisted that 'd' for delete (or 'dd' for delete line) where hard to remember. SHIFT-CTRL-Numpad-7 for delete line is so much more mnemonic ...  |O

Well, impatient little me got a bit twitchy, so the 3478A is back together...

My painting efforts were less than perfect - but I think decent enough for a daily drive bench meter

Still have the side inserts to fit.  Unfortunately, it didn't come with the top insert.

How it looks powered up...

With no space at the rear, I needed a right angle IEC cable - and the only one I have ....

Hmmm..... that little rubber boot...!

Fits fine without it.

So... do I:
 1. Leave it off
 2. Cut it down
 3. Cover the BNC with something else
 4. Find a different IEC cable
 5. Mash it in anyway  (... er ... no.)

The more common yellow BNC covers stick out about the same amount so that won't help. A different right angle IEC might help but for some reason they can be hard to find. I have several but only because they came with the equipment.

Seems items 1 or 2 would be your best bet. I would go with item 2.....cut down the cover so it fits tighter against the BNC.

I succombed to that temptation, once, with my "military" Fluke DVM. Importantly there was little penalty: only £0.99 and no space lost since I'm content for it to live in the garden shed (it has lots of silica gel bags internally :) )

Nah. That would simply be Polish Notation. I prefer to gather all the objects into the right place, then specify the operation: RPN.
