The beginning of the end or a sure sign the end's already underway.  You mentioned Yonge & Eglinton.  My family used to live not far from there when I was a kid.  North Toronto hadn't been named Midtown yet.  I dig my heels in at that one and remind people that the high school's named North Toronto Collegiate Institute, not Midtown.

I mentioned not knowing how long old style businesses like Electronic Surplus Industries hanging on with gentrification going crazy after seeing places like Active Surplus and Supremetronic and others either fold outright or move but then find out they couldn't make it in their new location.  Active Surplus moved twice that I know of, from the original store to the one upstairs on Queen St. and then up to Steeles West, and then shut down completely not long after from what I remember.  If you need electronics parts immediately and need to go to a brick and mortar store to get them and you live in Toronto, you're looking at a trip into the 905 area code to get them except or maybe Creatron or the Sayal on Victoria Park in the northeast corner of the city.

I never knew that area as Midtown.  My buddy grew up around there, and is still not far from there.  I actually grew up further north, well up Hwy 11 (aka Yonge Street, but not called that).  Far enough that as a kid I would visit my grandmother on Eglinton near the Credit River 4 or 5 times a year.  It turns out I lived across the street from where her house had stood for a couple of years in the 90s.  I never recognized it for the gentrification, and the house was gone by then.   I remember stories of people jumping off the Eglinton bridge into the Credit River to go swimming; I did see the bridge with my own eyes as a kid and the drop to the water was about 3 metres.  Oh, as a very young child, Eglinton was a gravel road!  The current bridge is now a 6-lane road traversing the whole valley; the drop to the water is more like 33 metres.

Edit: forgot to finish.  I am surprised that Active Surplus is gone.  I remember them being on Queen St.  When they were first there, didn't they occupy both the ground and second floors?  The Ottawa location is still going; it was associated but had different ownership.  Likewise, they have moved a few times over the years, but not far.  Nowadays, they cater more to the Maker and 3DP crowd and no longer carry any surplus type items.  They are still a good place to pick up chemicals and the like, that other companies refuse to ship by mail or courier.

Actually I just checked it and it is in the RM network about 2AM last night so not sure what the delay was. I'm not complaining if it turns up ok.

Fingers crossed I'll get it tomorrow so I can play with it over the weekend.

You win some, you loose some... A 8590E blew up when I powered it on but the E4402B ticks all the right boxes...

[attachimg=1]

All the nice options: narrow BW, tracking gen (yay!) and even the low frequency option. But the cherry on top? A grand total of 225 running hours. Yummy!

Also:

[attachimg=2]

Never had one of these. If anyone knows of an easy, representative test on one of those: I'm all ears. And finally:

[attachimg=3]

Turns on but doesn't make sense... Only reacts to current knob... Bit too many decimal points. Even turning it on gets it beyond economic repair, not even going to try. I know there are some Thurlby loverboys around, so this one is free. For shipping at cost this one is yours...

PL310 issue. 40.95 is reading FSD which is usually the ADC or the 4000 mux on it or the pass transistor has gone bang. If the voltage on the output terminals looks sensible when you turn the coarse volts then it's the ADC or mux. If it's above 35 volts, the pass transistor is gone and it's probably FUBAR.

There were several different revisions of them. Some are absolute bastards to repair :(

Edit: also might be the voltage gain trimmer inside it. They go cranky. Give VR6 a whizz around and see what happens.

If you can't be bothered, let me know a shipping quote to UK  :-DD

SDD ratio here is pretty problematic. SDD = Supply:Demand:Dickhead ratio :)

PL310 issue
With output OFF all curret DPs are shown allong with the current limit setting.
If  DPs go off and output goes to 40V when output is ON then you have a voltage regulator/pass transistor issue.

That's actually rather cool. Could chuck that in something valuable in the post and see if it gets knocked around.

I want a similarly sized GPS logger at the moment. Alas they don't exist on the affordable end of things. Just need it to wake up once every 30 minutes or so, get a satellite lock and an approx location.

My current config:

Vintage TE = good, vintage PC = bad... I'm mildly surprised that it can even get past the POST with such meagre specs   :-DD

No time to work on the Type 310A today. The Lady is arriving this afternoon. I may or may not be on Discord tomorrow. It depends. She want's to cook dinner Saturday rather than us go out. Fried chicken and Mac and cheese. Everything neither one of us is supposed to have.  ;D And when she is using my kitchen I am banned from entering. So I might get on. She knows I participate with a bunch of creepy guys on line anyway.  :P :P :-DD
