Er, yeah, I just found that out, Bristol, Bristol seems just as silly to me as New York, New York. It used to be part of Avon and then for some stupid reason, possibly to provide some sort of rigging of votes for electoral advantage, they did away with the county of Avon and split it up.

No, it's not silly. Proper form is New York City, New York State, USA.

For some reason people just can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that it's a city (NYC) with in a state (NY) with the additional fact that the Capital of New York State is Albany, not NYC.

Yes, Avon is there, but it won't be shown on other documents. Avon, like Middlesex, hasn't existed for decades.

Without some risk investing is no use. Risks mean rewards. The Venn diagram of people who won't take risks and those who retire early shows very little overlap. Not buying that 34401A means moving away from your retirement plans. Do it for your future.

That's a bit misleading as Bristol is a "unitary authority" (as are a number of other places) not strictly a County per se. For instance, in London the London Borough of Hillingdon is mostly in the ceremonial county of Middlesex, as is Enfield but they all fall under the purview of the London Assembly, before that the Greater London Council and before that the London County Council (despite the fact there has never been a County of London per se). It's all down to successive governments messing about with the old traditional administrative structure of town council => county council => central government. The administrative boundaries have shifted, sometimes ignoring the traditional county boundaries.

The actual official structure of postal addresses in the UK, as dictated by the Post Office as was, is:

building name or number
THOROUGHFARE
dependent thoroughfare (where required)
locality (where required)
dependant locality (where required)
POSTTOWN POSTCODE

The county doesn't need to be written, although many people do out of tradition or habit. All the stuff in capitals is always there, the building name or number may or may not be required depending on the postcode, the dependent thoroughfare and locality are optional as they are implied by the postcode. Large users  (e.g. the BBC) get their own postcode and POSTTOWN POSTCODE is all that's required to get to them.

So, the format of my official postal address is:

666 Cerebus' Road
LONDON E7 XXX

and that's enough to get stuff through my front door.

My bet is that tggzzz's somewhat out of town place is the kind that would get an official address that uses a locality like:

1 Short Street
Sleepy Hamlet
BRISTOL BS99 1AB

I would but three things:

1. Screen has a gash out of it and the terminals are slightly worn. The screen plastics are no longer in stock.
2. It's dirty and last cal is 2005 which suggests it's been in private hands for a long time (old cal).
3. Cal is another £100 on top.

I know of some houses that are on a road without a name, e.g. from the definitive Royal Mail website

Note that Frampton Mansell is a village a mile away, Stroud a town (where bd will soon be living  ), and the county isn't mentioned!

That's it. House number+postcode -or- House name+postcode. The PAF database has that as the minimum search terms for deterministic addressing.

Indeed it is, but the Posties that actually go out on the rounds keep resisting the scanner implants, and hence need the odd street name or two. Also they object to the proposed location of the PAF database update port. They seem to feel that "bend over and be updated" is a bit infra-dig.

That's sort of the big brother to my 6206B, what with more current capacity and, as a consequence, current limiting. The crowbar was optional on mine; here it is included.

Really it appears to be used for testing frequency response of circuits and equipment more than anything so I can't really justify buying it as I don't need to do that.

Also, remember that the 651B is specced equipment for aligning the injector matrix on your Turbo Encabulator. And you need two for any OBD-IIb or later vehicle! You'll have to pay the dealership thousands to do that alignment for you at emissions-inspection time; really, it's just like money in the bank.
