Mmmmokayyy... I'm off to get mugged at ESI; pray for me.  :scared:   I will be taking the boi for immoral support.  >:D

So how did it go?

Here's a few highlights... sorry for the crappy phone pix; I really was not prepared for the spelunking expedition this turned out to be. ;)

This place is huge, stacked floor to ceiling with just the sort of stuff we all look for and love. The guy who runs it is reasonable, and he knows what the stuff is worth. But I, unfortunately, did not have enough discretionary funds for the stuff I wanted. There were a few items; a PSU especially that still niggles at me, but I just don't have the budget to spend that much on a fixer-upper right now. :-\

In all honesty, I really shouldn't have gone today so soon after my fall; my back and knee were just killing me by the time I got halfway through the place and it was all I could do to stand while we discussed prices. However, I'm sure I'll be back after I flip a few unneeded stuffs.

Looks like you had a nice visit.  I don't know if they own the building or if they lease it but you can see why I wonder how long a business like that can last in a neighbourhood like that where the condos have been encroaching fast and hard from the east where Caledonia Rd. and Castlefield Ave. are.  It's amazing how much time I spent in that neighbourhood 18 years ago when I worked in the area.  Fond memories of walking the train tracks from St. Clair to Lawrence with a friend from work and seeing the backsides of all the industrial sites.  Walking down almost down to the Commisso Bros. & Racco Italian bakery but calling it off once it became clear that the police were raiding it.  Noticing how a bunch of the security cameras on Commisso's weren't pointed at the premises but were aimed up Kincourt Rd. or down Castlefield Ave. and a bunch of other after work mischief that's not possible with how Toronto's getting so sanitized.  Now I'm only ever there if I'm going to ESI looking for test equipment scores...

Welcome back Mr. Catch-up, how's life? All well, I hope?  :D

Yes, generally going fine. Crazy busy at work, but things will calm down pretty soon. Got my flu shot, too, so I'm ready for winter.

How have you been, Mounty? Looks like the TEA house hasn't gone up in flames. ;D

....with 100 more pages of TEA to read.  >:D  >:D  >:D >:D

Fortunately, only 82. :P I'll process them in parallel. That seemed to be more manageable last time.

Ok, back from the beer-discussion.

My voltnuttery and timenuttery stroke me by accident last saturday:
My bench is in a real mess -that's why I accidentally powered on the power supply a repaired LPRF-01 rubidium reference oscillator was connected to.
Actually I didn't repair the rubidium oscillator itself -didn't have to, expected it first though.
After beginning of debugging the somewhat unstable behaviour I revealed the trimming resistor was bad.
I swapped the old one (red arrow) with a new one and calibrated it to my GPSDO.
That was back in 2019.
See what it stabilized to (counter is syntonized to my GPSDO the rubidium oscillator was calibrated to):

I'm quite satisfied. Jumps around the LSB by 1-3 digits.

My newest acquisition in the voltnut department is a 10k Vishay foil resistor in a convenient housing.
I'm not sure, but I think I bought it from a eevblog member..

Anyway, my blue HP3456A shows stable readings of +10.00020E+3 Ohms +/-1 digit since last Saturday now.
Quite happy with that, too -since it's in spec regarding the accuracy of the resistor. Haven't taken the accuracy of the meter into the equation. Want to go to bed happily tonight. Maybe tomorrow.   ;)

Good night!

Can anyone tell me why I should buy an HP 651B when I have a perfectly good SDG1032X other than it's cool? Need some use cases :-DD

what is it good for?   where else would you put yer martini fixins'?

note.....it is badged as a 75 ohm "A" but you change one resistor and it becomes a 50 ohm "B".

No, a Long Island Iced Tea has no tea in it, and is alcoholic AF:

Long Island Iced Tea

Ingredients:

    3/4 oz Vodka
    3/4 oz White rum
    3/4 oz Silver tequila
    3/4 oz Gin
    3/4 oz Triple sec
    3/4 oz Simple syrup
    3/4 oz Fresh lemon juice
    Cola, to top
    Garnish: Lemon wedge

Steps:

Add all ingredients except the cola into a Collins glass with ice.
Top with splash of cola and stir briefly.
    Garnish with lemon wedge.
    Serve with straw.

Some people swear it tastes like Iced Tea; I've never had one that didn't just taste like a rum & coke with too much lime.

Nothing whatever like my toddy; you literally can't tell the Tito's is in there. You can get Aunt Ruth wasted on the stuff and she will not even realize it.  >:D

Shows how little I know about alcoholic beverages. Not a fan. Never have been. Aside from an occasional bottle of Emmets (Cheaper than Bailey's) and perhaps 2 or 3 Guinness per YEAR that's the extent of my alcoholic consumption. I suppose having a family tree loaded with boozers and alcoholics and fearing I could become one was a good deterrent.

Not sure where it came from exactly ... in the sale account, the "-IC-" stands for Industry Canada.
That is the department that runs the HAM exams and spectrum management, among other things.

Same here; that's why I like my Tito's. Goes in anything and doesn't color the flavor. You can get wrecked (maybe a couple times a year) or you can just get a nice warm feeling after a long day's work and it tastes like drinking tea or a soda.

I used to drink a lot of beer; grew up in the boonies and that's just what you did to socialize. When it started giving me a headache every time and I started getting into trouble for bein' a mean fuckhead drunk, that's when I realized I didn't need to drink it just because everybody else did.

I have never looked back.

Yup; as I suspected, just the plastic sleeve busted/missing. Provided the control's not siezed up should still be usable that way, or can easily make a new sleeve out of a bit of tubing and epoxy. Did such a patch on a similar one ages ago. ;)
