| Test Level voltage for leakage inductance measurement? |

Hi, We are using Hameg HM8118 LCR meter to measure leakage indiuctance of a ferrite transformer. The primary is about 60uH and the leakage , we know, will be around 300nH or so. What test level voltage would you set for this? The manual doesnt enlighten much on this. But surely a test voltage of 1V would give more accuracy? DER243 (page 18) https://www.power.com/sites/default/files/documents/der243.pdf 10:30 of the below discusses measurement voltage level setting...but goes on about the voltage across the component in the application..but clearly, Power Integrations set 0.4V as the Test level voltage when measuring primary inductance....but that coil sees some 330V in the circuit as its the primary of an offline flyback...so clearly transformer manufacturers do not base the Test Level voltage on the voltage seen in the application.... https://youtu.be/vi9t5gdog7Q So do you agree, the higher the Test Level set, the more is the accuracy? |

Can you measure at 0.4V 1.0V and 1.5V on the HM8118 and let us know the result? HM8118 seems only specified at 1.0V and SLOW measurement range in that datasheet. So I would use that. Its not clear how much better or worse the other ranges would be. But yes generally higher test voltage is more accurate for LCR meter. When you are measuring in circuit you might not want that. |
