The screen colors on my Rigol are inverted.
« on: November 26, 2015, 05:32:48 am »
Take a look at the picture, I turned on my Rigol MSO4014 today and the screen colors appear inverted. Their is also a flicker on the screen. The video on the VGA out port is the correct color.

No I don't think there is an invert option in the menus. Even the bootup screen is inverted.

I left it on for like a 30 minutes and now the screen is black again, but it is washed out, the contrast is jacked.

It may be as a bad connector to the LCD.  Gently poking around with a pencil on flat flex cables and connectors near/on the screen can identify this.  A problem that looks this consistent suggests it may be a fault in a parallel signalling interface (where one bad connection causes ~1 fault), so the cables with the most traces are the ones you should be looking at.

I left it off for like 30 minutes and then turn it back on and now its normal. Now it's broken again... it appears to break only when I want to use it, it's like a mysterious Rigol quantum observer effect  :-//  :-BROKE

That happened on one of my Acer laptops a few years ago... something in the display might be dying.  :scared:
Could just be a loose cable or something, though...

I would void the warranty if I opened it up for the purposes of repairing it. In the USA, only modification is allowed (due to the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act) without voiding the warranty per the fine print in the Rigol warranty contract. See section 5(4):

Quote
5. The warranty is void if:
(1) Accidental damage occurs during transportation (please confer with insurance agency or transportation company on the compensation).
(2) Malfunction or damage is caused by misuse according to warnings in the product documentation or using or storing in an environment outside of the specification’s limits.
(3) Surface damage by manmade factors, like burn, distortion by force, etc.
(4) Repaired by anyone who is not from RIGOL Maintenance Center or an authorized maintenance branch.
(5) Accident damage caused by using a power cord or a power adapter not approved by RIGOL.

You'll need to send it back to Rigol for repair.

Here is how my repair went: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/rigol-ds2072a-spurious-signals-and-display-corruption/

I don't know what it's like where you live but here in the UK, if a product is faulty, you should return it to the retailer/distributor, as that is who you made the contract with, rather than the manufacturer.
