Tonghui TH2380 with cosmetic issues
Caliaxy:
I finally got one. As a quick first impression, I’m unpleasantly surprised by the sloppiness of the cosmetic execution. The lettering on the faceplate is tilted – not much, about 2 degrees, but still annoyingly conspicuous.
One of the fixtures that came with it looks carelessly assembled as well.
Although none of these issues are functional, they are still worrisome. It’s still a $1100+ meter (shipped) and, honestly, I expected Tonghui to care a little bit more about appearance.
Nothing else is obviously wrong with it, but I only did a few quick measurements, which seemed fine. Still going through the online manual…
Has anybody else had a similar experience with Tonghui? Are there counterfeits around? Is this what they generally deliver or should I be worried?
I bought it new on Amazon (US) from a vendor in China (not expected to be an authorized dealer, but the item was declared “returnable”). It came in what seems to be an original box, sealed with tape marked “Tonghui”, with two stickers showing the S/N on the outside of the box (matching the S/N on the sticker on the LCR meter), a laser-printed calibration certificate (in English) with values measured for each range and no other inserts (the pictures on Amazon also show a CD, some leaflets, desiccant packs, and something that looks like a manual or a quick guide - none of which were included with what I received). Overall, despite the missing small items ("open box"?), it seems legit to me, but I could be wrong…

There is no way I could look at that tilted lettering every day. It would drive me crazy. There is no excuse for that kind of sloppiness at that price I'd send it back immediately.

Return to sender, it´s surprising this went through the quality control...

I have a few Tonghui products, and I've not seen any issues like this. I don't like the reversed channel numbering on some of their power supplies, but that is completely different.
Return it. It seems like it could be a "ghost shift" unit built from reject parts. I wonder what other surprises it has in store... :scared:

We have the TH2830 and various Tonghui LCR Fixtures, all are very well built and nothing "sloppy" about them. One of the better China sourced OEMs, many of their items are also rebranded. They perform quite well in their various functions, and the TH2830 compares quite well with our best in-house LCR from the Japanese OEM Hioki IM3536.
From what you've shown, making quality measurements may be questionable in your mind and the solution would be to return and get a sample that you feel confident in.
Best & Happy Holidays,
BTW think OP is referring to TH2830 and not TH2380??
