Trio web page down
« on: February 16, 2020, 05:07:01 am »
Looks like Trio Test's slide is about complete. The web site is down now, and in recent months have been all but useless with enquiries regarding equipment purchases.

God I miss Charles.

You might want to chase this Human directly. I dealt with the new parent early last year and it was less than stellar at the time but I got what I paid for and in good time,

FWIW it might favor the new Trio operators, and EEVblog spenders members, to rock up here and say G'Day,

and address any website or contact issues > examples are 404, certificate expiry BS, false virus scan alerts,
adware infested outdated browser 'Get Me Outta Here' messages, shopping carts with broken axles etc

issues that they or irate enquirers may not even be aware of.  ???

Don't stick in the boots just yet people, and give the local bricks n mortar battlers a chance to familiarise and tune their services to help us here

I like/prefer to buy stuff locally, or interstate if I have to, and return it if it doesn't work, or for service/repairs/parts/info etc

And no, it's not outdated to do it that way,
with the added bonus of minimum impact from corona panic imports  :scared:

and only the slim possibility of a Kangaroo Poo Flu outbreak we have to watch out for, that infects humans with the sniffles and mutates PCBs     :D

You will find a bunch of references to Charles of Triotest and Measurement in some of Dave's videos so it is that Trio. It was sold the year before last and the new owners quite frankly have screwed the pooch with their acquisition and the former reputation of that brand. In a year it seems little to zero has changed on that front since I dealt with them  :--

It doesn't mean it can't be sorted and redeemed of a fashion but there are limits before customers just don't bother trying.

Yeah well sort of........ but the sale was brought about by Charles retiring and another of the senior staff unexpectedly passing.
Mark replied earlier today saying their website is under redevelopment and the unexpected outage was a result of that. Their URL will apparently remain unchanged and they're currently addressing the outage.

Unfortunately, this isnt the first time this has happened. Cancelled a couple orders because it was taking to long to deliver (one time over 5 weeks, delayed twice, and asking for further 2weeks), both times got the same equipment from overseas within a week. This was also well before the corona virus. Forget email, to get a response you need to call them (at least thats my experience). Sory to say Im not going back again!

Time they got on the front foot. 18 months to get an acquisition settled and sorted is ridiculous in particular where the new parent is a lot larger than the acquisition. IPD's Management needs a foot up the ass and or their board needs to know if they are not aware of the ongoing issues! Having an existing website disappear because of a new developing one who is their developer Crusty the Clown :o

Not that the members of this forum here in Oz are their biggest buyers by any means but it is for them like it or not one of the most public if others are searching for information on products or their brand.

This was some months ago and they are still 'screwing the pooch' https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/where-to-buy-the-siglent-sds1202x-in-asutralia/

How I found them in early 2019 and I was polite about the fluff around https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/trio-test-australia-no-longer-showing-pricing-on-their-site/

Having Mark make two posts here last year is not the answer to a larger problem and meanwhile the Brand is suffering.

They could do loyal punters the courtesy to at least 'hint' they intend to scuttle the business (what's new?)

or that their hands are tied because the corporats above just don't gas, much less even remember the acquisition (what's new?)

and the wannabee webmasters need to go easy on the p0rn and ice thing  (nothing new there either)  and do what they are paid for,
manage and check the website is functioning across as many browsers as possible, new and old

It's not that difficult to drum up a DIY basic website and maintain it,
nor is it difficult to get one done at a good package price by pros,
and check on it yourself once in a blue moon,
try and buy something and see how far it gets to a successful online transaction..
or is that a too big an ask and not in the pay grade?   :palm:

I'm not scrubbing Trio yet from my Contacts, till it's verified they are either having legit settling issues, or just another slacker run business to be avoided

They are also just too expensive. I have requested a few quotes in the last 12 months for keysight and AEMC gear and on both occasions the price was RRP or 40% higher than another Australian seller. Charles was always prepared to "meet the market", "sharpen the pencil". I have no idea who my current account manager is despite having purchased well over 50k of equipment over the last 5 years. The last sales guy flat out lied to me before leaving a month later. Disappointment.

Around the time of the transition of Trio to IPD  I was looking at some Keysight gear and when I saw the name IPD it was  :-//. Looked up who they were and thought "why"  :-//, where was the fit with these two companies.
And speaking with some 'soon to be out of work'  Trio staff at the time they were also   :-//.
So some 18 months later nothing has changed. Sad as it was always a pleasure to deal with the former 'Trio'.
I wonder if the major TE suppliers are happy with the sales figures from IPD ?.
The odd multimeter or 2 or 3 or 4...or........can't remember !.

Excellent, the new site even works well on my old TV browser.   :-+

Their price on the Siglent SDS2000X-LA Firmware is a bit rich.   :--

Certainly not, it's our only indicator of how well they are monitoring both the site and the forum.   >:D

Must be a work in progress. No Keysight 3000X series scopes in the products despite being on page one, same for the Siglent SDS5000X series. How did you get to the accessories page? Can't find the path to it from the main page.

Now that they are back on track, be it by sheer coincidence, and or perhaps with a friendly FYIffs heads up nudge from a Mr. Tx (you kinow who you are  ;D)

perhaps we'll see some EEVblog 'mates rates' prices happening, especially on pricier  :scared:  high end gear, and or DJ somehow earning a cut too  :-+

Nope, they knew they had a problem  and didn't expect any in the progress to a new website platform.
Shit happens and they pulled out stops to get it sorted.  :phew:

Yeah I sent a FYI and got a wee taste of what they were up to.  ;)

For what it's worth, they have amended the price on that package and it's now listed as POA.

For all you Australian Siglent buyers, there is a new official distributor here, if you prefer to buy local but dont trust Trio anymore, AppVision ( https://appvision.com.au/index.php ).

They are an official distributor of MICSIG gear also. I have ordered a couple things from them, mucked up an order and they were easy to deal with to correct it. Also their webpage shows stock/lead times which is cool.

Can you imagine if someone bought Amazon.com and said "sorry guys it's going to be at least 18 months that we will have a broken website and horrible customer service before we sort this out". Hopefully someone starts a competitive business in Australia and puts Trio out of their misery. They already have one foot in the grave. Their revenue is a tiny fraction of what it once was, and you can see what effect reduced sales has had on long standing businesses from government lock-downs. If they don't right their ship soon they will be boarding up the windows (and they don't even have rioters in their town!) and hanging that "Out of Business" sign on the front door. As a neutral third-party looking at this it seems like they are way in over their head and have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

Woah!!! I just about fell out of my chair looking at their pricing!!

SIGLENT SDS2104X-PLUS is $2,365.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's almost $1,000 more than the majority of American sellers who list it for $1,399

Do they just rely on uneducated buyers who impulse buy?

Are you referring to $1399 in USD? Since Trio site is an Australian based site and the pricing is in AU Dollar... Yes the customer service was less than average in 2019 but the business has now turned itself around and is actually at a much better place than what it used to be.

Don't take my word for it, just have a look at the recent reviews from a handful of customers.  :) :) :)
