Troubleshooting Sencore SC61 Oscilloscope
« on: May 18, 2023, 12:39:41 am »
I recently purchased an analog Sencore SC61 oscilloscope at a flea market and have been trying it out. I don't have much experience with scopes but I think this one might have some problems. Here's what I've noticed:

1. The VPP measurement doesn't work on either channel (it worked once on B but only briefly)
2. Sometimes the trace seems "jittery" even when it's not connected to anything. (I've heard that jitter is a technical term but I'm just using it in its normal sense)
3. There's something going on with the timebase control.  It seemed OK, with a sine wave and set at 2ms (aside from the jitter), then I switched it to 1 and the trace went from a sine wave to a vertical line. I switched it back to 2ms and the trace remained unchanged (vertical line).  After fiddling with the knob a while, it ultimately went back to a proper sine wave.

Do these problems have any connection?  Any suggestions on fixing them?  I've already opened it up and sprayed contact cleaner (DeOxit) on the controls, but the timebase one is pretty hard to access.

Maybe some contact cleaner?
