I've had this supply for a couple of years now and it works extremely well. Every once and awhile I get a turn on failure but I just do a quick restart and it's fine. I opted for the MX100TP because I do a lot of low current work and I wanted the extra precision on channel 1. I have several other supplies so I don't need the high current. I have an old HP 6632B (one of the best supplies ever made) on the rack too but the TTI is quieter and when a supply is running for days in a set up that makes a big difference to me.

I really think this MX100TP PS is a Best In Class for low power setups ;D

Hi MarkL,
MX100TP Power Supply covers all my needs. So you've remoted this PS thanks to a computer, but how did you proceed ? I mean by software. Did you use an excel sheet ? Maybe could you show a printscreen ?
I've written a bunch of GPIB utilities in perl and bash that read/write data to instruments, and there's another bash script which does the stepping and outputs to a CSV file.  I usually read the CSV file into octave for more computation and/or plotting.  The utilities run on linux and are all command-line driven, and they use the linux-gpib driver for all the underlying communication.

I'm sure it's underwhelming given the fancy GUI packages available today, but I've been using it for at least 15 years and unmotivated to change since it works.

The unit came with a CD that has:

  IVI Driver
  LXI Discovery Tool
  National Instruments Driver
  TCP Example Program
  TTi Firmware Update Utility
  USB Driver

(and user manuals in various languages)

These are all windows bits, so I can't vouch for how well they work.  But at least supported GUI option(s) are available.

Extra question about terminals : here is the drawing in mm of my terminals, do you think I'll meet troubles with them ?
...
These jumpers look ok to me.  I measured the binding posts on the unit to be 20mm deep and exactly 4mm in diameter.  The metal contact sleeve inside the binding post is recessed about 3.1mm.

It appears that these jumpers are the ones with a contact cage that rotates?  If so, I'll add that I haven't had good experiences with them on any equipment since the contact between the cage and shaft can wear and become intermittent.  Maybe the ones I had weren't quality enough to last.  But after several frustrating events at high currents, I now only use fixed contact banana plugs, specifically the Pomona Model B stacking patch cords.

Hi MarkL,

So, you manage a voltage ramp via a csv file which is similar to Excel. I'll check how it will be obvious to proceed.

About my terminals, I'll use terminals from PJP. They have a website with a complete portfolio : http://www.electro-pjp.com/sites/default/files/catalogue_1.pdf but I don't know if they have a distributor in US. You have some options with many quality levels, it's up to you, you can ask a custom-made cable (even with NiAu coating) ;)

I know this is an old thread but I try to get an answer anyway  ;)

Some in this thread have said the MX100 is fairly quiet. My impressions from this Video tells me it is quite noisy ?
Just listen in the beginning before turning on and at the and when turning off.

Is the video misleading. Yes I am thinking about buying the MX100, but not if too much fan noise.

I just turned mine on. When it first comes on the fan is louder for a few seconds then it quiets right down, at least that's what I found and I'm a stickler for noise, I sold my Keysight bench meter because it was too noisy for me.

I think the noise is relative to current draw but I've run higher currents and still had no objection.

Thank you for your answer Rob !

I am allergic to Fan Noise  >:(

My choice is between the MX100T / TP or the PL303QMD /P.

The latter i less flexible from a voltage, current and output perspective, but lower Fan Noise if any, heavier but smaller in depth.
(I would like both !)

One other question. I am quite a fan of being able to change one digit at a time when setting voltage or current, e.g. ramping up
the voltage in 1 V increments.

This is indicated as possible in the manual under 'Spin Wheel Action ->  single digit increment. It just does not explain how ?
How do you jump to the digit you want to increment ?

"single digit increment" doesn't differentiate each specific digit. You can't, for example, select the volt's ten digit and just advance it. Example 8.374 volts, we can't just advance the "3" or or.1 place. "Single digit" basically stops acceleration, no matter how fast you spin the dial the digit change is only by one digit (starting from the LSD). The accelerator works very well but you can't go from 6.418 volts to 7.418 volts in one shot. The way to do that is with the touch pad or spinning the dial fast then slowing down to the voltage you want.

Thank you for a quick and clear answer !  :-+

I have some TTI units at work with Coarse, Fine knobs but I prefer some other units with digit increments.
The MX100 seems to be somewhere in between with 'acceleration' action.

P.S. Don't you sleep over there ? :)

Hi guys,

Sorry to bump up this thread! But reading all this sparked my interest in the MX100TP, and even though it's quite a lot more than what I was wanting to spend, I just bought one :-+ You live only once, I guess.

I concur: nice device, stable and accurate. The user interface is very well thought through, I like it. Love the power reading (VxA) and the wide output ranges so I don't have to mess with serial/parallel connections anymore.

However: one thing is bugging me. Fan noise! :-\ When I first turned it on, the fan was spinning very quietly. However, after a while, the MX100TP warms up (even with all outputs OFF) and the fan speed increases to a level which is really too much for me. It reminds me of those old PC power supplies with an unregulated 80mm fan at full blast all the time.

I measured idle power consumption at a whopping 46 watts, which explains the considerable amount of heat, causing the fan to ramp up. Is this normal? I barely understand how they manage to dissipate 46 watts with all outputs OFF! Do you guys have similar behaviour? I'm almost hoping I have a defective device because I really like all the rest...

First time I heard fan noise from my MX100TP was this week when I had all three outputs running in parallel at 15A /14V to charge my car battery.

Mine comes on then the fan quiets right down. I've left it on all day with no problem. Try moving to a different spot and seeing if it's reflected sound or something like that.

Do any of you have the possibility to check idle power consumption on your unit so we could compare? Mine pulls 46W with all outputs off @ 230VAC which seems fairly high considering what's inside.

Mine comes on then the fan quiets right down.
Same BUT after an hour or so of sitting idle, the device has warmed up (46W idle power needs to go somewhere) causing the fan to ramp up considerably.

122 volts, 42 watts,  ~450ma at idle with no outputs on. Fan quiet.

Thanks man! OK, so I shouldn't worry something is flaky in my unit :-) Guess I'll get used to it :-)

Old thread, I know, but there is a new firmware (V1.05) out that solves this. I had the same intermittent error occurring in my brand-new MX100TP and raised an issue with AIMTTI. First they swapped my PS for a new one but to my surprise that also exhibited the error. After which AIMTTI brought out new firmware that solved the problem. You can find the FW on their website.
