« on: April 02, 2021, 03:36:26 pm »
Have some Simpson 260 VOMs  6, 6P and 7 series   one is missing the rear compartment cover.

Any tips where to find a spare cover?

Many thanks

Maybe publish some pictures and measurements, so someone could make a 3d model for you to print some?
Don't think there's a box of NOS battery covers around, but who knows.

Is that the small battery-compartment cover or the whole back?

If it is the small one, Simpson may still be making it if it is the same as the 260-8 series.

You may want to contact Scherrer Instruments and see if they have or can get those covers and if they will fit your model.

A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

Since you're in France, it probably won't help you but E-bay is full of 260s for sale. I was just looking at them last night.

Check e-bay and see if there are any 260s near you, or if one of the US sellers offers free or low-cost shipping to Europe.

Bonjour a tous,

Discovered another one here with leaky damaged battery compartment, so I am removing cleaning and swapping the small battery rear cover,  2" x 5.5"

I can receive in either  EU or   USA . In case someone turns up a spare cover, I am grateful.

I just unearthed the Triplett 630NA, which had severely corroded AA battery, but otherwise in great cond.

After cleaning the extensive alkaline corrosion and soldering back the wire to the battery holder, then contact clean on ohms control pot, its perfect and in CAL on every range.

Inside the Triplett has a MUCH higher quality PCB, resistors and design than the Simpsons.

Many thanks again!

FWIW this 260 caught my eye last night. It's a series 1 and dates from the 1930s or 40s but it is in rough condition and most of the markings are almost illegible and one of the knobs is missing.

Hi Jon;

Have you considered contacting Simpson directly: https://simpsonelectric.com/ they are still in business and still make a 260 variant.    I didn't find any parts list nor a list of service centers in France, if you give them a call I'm certain they will want to help.   Or maybe you can find the international list of service centers on the web site.

Surprisingly; I was shocked ;) to find that they are even introducing a new analog meter in 2021.   I is a clear cased meter in part targeting education.   I have a feeling it will be a collectors item in quick order.

These old analog meter still get use in industry.   However mainstream use is now mostly digital due to the meters generally being more rugged.

Have some Simpson 260 VOMs  6, 6P and 7 series   one is missing the rear compartment cover.

Any tips where to find a spare cover?

Many thanks

Jon
