Hello,
Suddenly the Keysight U1242C multimeter beeps for 5s, the Vsense light stays on and it shows the muAEr error. According to the handbook this means that test leads are connected into the A or mu*mA terminal but a wrong mode is selected. Indeed, when I turn the dial to current measure then the error disappears. The issue however is that no leads are connected... No matter where I connect leads I get this error.
Any guesses how I can troubleshoot and fix this issue?
Thanks

I don't have such a device.
Judging by the pictures from the Internet, the problem may be due to an additional circuit for determining the connected probe.

I'm not sure what detection method is used for the U1242C, but two possibilities that come to mind would be a split jack or an optical sensor. So clean the jack first and see if that makes a difference.

I would also suggest you to carefully clean both the current sockets first. There might be something conductive in them. If that doesn't solve the problem then there might be something wrong with the sense circuitry.
From the picture, I guess the springy wires clipped on top of the current jacks are the sense wires.
