"uaerr" - Keysight U1282a
« on: October 20, 2019, 08:58:57 pm »
Although I have this multimeter for a few months, I only used it a few times. Always worked correctly.

Today when trying to do a simple continuity test, this error appeared. According to the manual the problem is that the device recognizes that the probes are not in the right place ... but as you can see in the video this is not true.

Does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on here?

Thanks!

First thing I would do on a handheld is a fresh set of battery before spending any more time on it.

Just a few other potential suggestions.
Check out the 'current' socket - make sure nothing is stuck in there making the meter think the leads are in. The socket contacts aren't bent etc.
Remove batteries - leave them out for 10mins - then new/good /known set.
Edit, addnl
See if you can do a 'factory reset'
Check with another set of leads.
Good luck!
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

"uAerr" indicates that DMM is detecting inserted probe on micro/miliamp jack. This Keysight has probe detection feature only on Amp and mili/micro amp jacks - it is intended for safety.

Thus
1) try "Voltage" setting. The same error shoud persist
2) try micro/miliamp setting. Error should disappear by default
3) check if any debris is in the micro/mili amp jack. It is the most likely problem.

Hello everyone.
Thanks for the answers.

The batteries are new .... but I replaced them just to be sure.

I used my microscope to see inside the jack and it's clean. The multimeter is always stored in a storage box.

The multimeter shows this error in almost every position ...

I already reset the multimeter Setup options, but the problem persists.

What a strange thing ....

You could try inserting and retrieving the 4mm banana end of one of your probes in and out from both the A and mA jacks just in case a bit of dust or something has gotten stuck in one of the meter jacks.

I have the U1273a and it has started playing up the last week or so in the Zlow mode when testing betteries! You think when you buy Keysight they won't break down. Just goes to show they can crap out just the same as a £20 meter  ???

I think this method solved my problem ... for now the error seems to have disappeared.

My Chinese multimeter has none of these probe detections. The more tech a device is, the more things to malfunction it has.

I agree 100% buddy! I hope that yours is fixed now. It's a real pain in the a*s* when they are not working properly.

It just explodes without prior notice when accidentally connected to mains when using current terminal.

Not if you wear protective clothing  ;D ;D

Jokes aside, I understand the importance of a good multimeter .... that's why I bought it.
On the other hand, in some applications, 20USD chinese multimeter are just fine.

I have a couple of these to check some low voltage stuff and they work just fine.

Well... work like "15/20USD fine"  ;).
