Uni-T UT33A autorange multimeter with backlight teardown
« on: January 15, 2018, 05:21:55 pm »
Hello, this is my first multimeter I ever bought and I decided to open it because the rotary switch is not acting very well. I read here (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/uni-t-ut33d-very-low-cost-multimeter-teardown-and-review/) that the steel ball bearings may be the problem and actually that's was the case (one ball bearing wasn't in place). Also in that topic there is teardown of UT33A by vk6hdx but my UT33A is someway different.

1. Backlight button instead of transistor slot;
2. Two ceramic fuses rated 0.4A/250V(5x20mm) and 10A/600V(6x25mm) instead one glass fuse;
3. Metal pins for batteries instead of cables connected to the batteries holder;
4. Display can't be disassembled because backlight is soldered to the PCB (maybe it's possible but I'm afraid to do it, and definitely don't want to desolder it).

Backlight is very bright (blue color) and it doesn't turn off until the backlight button is pushed again. If you don't switch the rotary or push SELECT button for 14 minutes you'll hear 3 beeps which means after one more minute the meter will auto power-off.
