Title: Unsecuring an HP 3458A
Post by: Jwalling on August 02, 2020, 01:41:30 pm
I have a 3458A on my bench that won't allow me to do an ACAL. The DMM apparently has it's security enabled.
I've tried "acal_secure OFF" and "SECURE 3458A,0" and both give me an error, so it looks like someone has changed the default code. :-//
Is there any way to clear the code?

Thanks!

There’s a jumper inside to disable security. First, try 3458 as the code, though.

All well covered in the manual: http://literature.cdn.keysight.com/litweb/pdf/03458-90017.pdf (http://literature.cdn.keysight.com/litweb/pdf/03458-90017.pdf)

That worked. Many thanks! :-+

The programming users manual states that the default code is 3458A, not 3458.
From the examples:

OUTPUT 722;"ACAL ALL,3458A" !RUNS ALL AUTOCALS USING
                           !FACTORY SECURITY CODE

OUTPUT 722;"SECURE 3458A,0" !DISABLES SECURITY FOR CALIBRATION AND AUTOCAL

EDIT: The above was from document 03458-90014, the users guide.
The 03458-90017 calibration manual you linked to is 3458!

I wonder why they changed it? Or maybe a document error?

I just downloaded the latest users guide from keysight:
https://www.keysight.com/main/redirector.jspx?action=ref&cname=EDITORIAL&ckey=3088413&lc=eng&cc=US&nfr=-31940.1242732.00 (https://www.keysight.com/main/redirector.jspx?action=ref&cname=EDITORIAL&ckey=3088413&lc=eng&cc=US&nfr=-31940.1242732.00)

On page 340:

Quote
Changing the code
OUTPUT 722;"SECURE 3458A,4448,0 n" !CHANGE FACTORY SECURITY CODE TO
4448,
!ENABLE AUTOCAL SECURITY
Disabling security
OUTPUT 722;"SECURE 3458A,0" !DISABLES SECURITY FOR CALIBRATION AND
AUTOCAL

So it's still wrong there...
