Upgrading Mainboard in Lecroy DDA-3000 (aka WavePro 7300a?)

nctnico:
AFAIK the device drivers aren't compatible between Win2k, WinXP and Windows7. IMHO you'll need the specific device drivers for the specific Windows version. So unless you can find XP drivers for your scope, you'll have to use Win2k. I don't think that is a bad thing though as Win2k is a pretty stable version of Windows.

benj38:
@nctnico, the device drivers are specified by LeCroy as compatible both with Win2K and XP, and many people have also used them with no problems with Windows 7 32bit.
This was covered deeply in this thread, which I have read very carefully (all 31 pages of it).

nctnico:
In that case I don't know what the problem is. I vaguely recall having some difficulties getting Lecroy's drivers going myself. So check if there aren't any other folders with .inf files that could be the drivers Windows is missing.

benj38:
It just occurred to me to do the following experiment:
I tried to install the drivers with the original inf files not using the installer (which works fine except for the fan controller issue), but manually as I did when installing with the dxl modified inf files (which dxl says do not work with the installer, and instructed to install manually https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/upgrading-mainboard-in-lecroy-dda-3000-(aka-wavepro-7300a)/msg1144239/#msg1144239).

Well, I get the same error!

So, I am probably not doing the manual process correctly, but I do not know what my mistake is!

They way I do it is as follows:

* I open device manager and right click on the only device that is not installed correctly, namely "PCI data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller" under "Other devices".
* In the popup menu I select "Update driver" (BTW, "Uninstall driver" does nothing, indicating as expected that no driver is installed).
* In the "Hardware Update Wizard" window that opens I select "No, not this time" for the suggestion to connect to Windows Update, and click "Next".
* In the next screen I select the option "Install from a list of specific locations (Advanced)", and click "Next" (BTW, the option to install automatically, if selected, complains as expected that it could not find the software needed).
* In the next screen I select "Include this location in the search", and browse to the folder where I have the drivers (and the inf files), and click "Next".
* The first LeCroy driver installs successfully  and the wizard reports that it finshed installing the software for "XStream DSO Devices". I click "Finish".
* As a result, the new driver appears in device manager under "multifunction adapters" as "XStream DSO Devices". Being a multifunction device, it causes 7 new devices (indicated as not installed correctly) to show under "Other devices". All 7 devices are called "Multifunction Device" at this point.
* This causes a new "Found New Hardware Wizard" window to automatically pop up, prompting me to install the driver for it.
* I repeat steps 3,4,5 above, but this time I get the error message mentioned in my initial post https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/upgrading-mainboard-in-lecroy-dda-3000-(aka-wavepro-7300a)/msg5688385/#msg5688385 saying "Windows could not load the installer for DataAcquisition...", and in the background showing the name of the device the wizard was trying to find the software for (at this point it is "LeCroy Acquisition device").
* Clicking "OK" in the error message leads to a notification that "Cannot Install this Hardware", with the only option to click "Finish", after which the wizard closes and a new wizard pops up automatically for the next one of the 7 new devices mentioned above, only to have the same error message appear again and again.
What am I doing wrong?

nctnico:
I fired up my Wavepro 7300A to check. In WinXP's device manager it has only 1 multi-function adapter called 'XStream DSO Devices'. Driver version is 5.1.1.201
The PC type under computer (item at the top) is called 'Advanced power computer interface (ACPI)'. Maybe it is a BIOS issue which prevents IRQs to be assigned properly or something else plug & pray related.
