| Using the Anritsu MG3700A for complex vector waveforms |

If you’re interested in creating complex vector signals with high bandwidth, then the Anritsu MG3700A might be what you are looking for. It’s an ARB device with hundreds of waveforms preloaded, and quite a lot of other functions as a standard, including BER analysis. When looking for an ARB-capable vector signal generator myself, I eventually decided against upgrading my SMIQ3 or AMU200A (which both can do so, but with hard-to-find options) but decided to buy an Anritsu MG3700A I picked up mine for less than €1000 at ebay and made a video about its use as a stand-alone instrument. It’s a quite exiting device, enjoying it quite a lot! In the future, I plan to explore its use together with a computer, allowing you to create many complex waveforms (QAM, FPSK, etc.), multitone signals, and upload your own created waveforms from Matlab, Python code or other software. https://youtu.be/wyKYlI6jtRA Let me know what you think… - Rudi |

Those using the Anritsu MG3700A, or those interested in a quite capable yet affordable Vector Network Generator, might be interested in the second episode of my review of that device. Here, I go into the use of computer software (IQproducer) for generating standards-compliant waveforms, generic waveforms (e.g., QPSK, AFK, or QAM16 up to QAM256), or importing your own waveform from MatLab, Python code, or whatever. The episode also demonstrates how to show an IQ constellation diagram on an R&S RTB2 scope (using an undocumented command) and how to overcome the missing clock out signal on the Anritsu.
