Wandel & Goltermann NOWA-1,power line harmonic analyzer
« on: April 20, 2014, 09:36:57 pm »
Today from Ebay . . .

With user manual, remote controll manual and 4 roll of paper for the printer.

Not exactly the right thing for some electronic-smd-guys. Maybe someone is interested. I have fun to play around with it :D

Round about from 1988. Fully functional and precise. And from W&G you can expect a high build quality. Only the printer jammed. Has two outputs (Volts & Amps) on the rear for an oscilloscope.

Direct current measurements up to 30A, voltage up to 500V. Comes with a 1000/1 A current clamp. Measures up to the 50th harmonic.

1st picture: DUT is a vacuum cleaner at full power. ~6.05A at 225V
2nd picture: Harmonics in % of the fundamental (50 Hz). Cursor is at 50 Hz.
3rd picture: DUT at ~40% power
4th picture: Overview of effective, reactive and apparent power

That was only a quick play around. Have to read the friendly manual :)

Very cool piece of equipment, any chance of a teardown. At least more pics.

Thanks, Vgkid.

Maybe i will do a teardown. There are some interesting parts in it. I already have ~80 pics on my harddrive from a W&G SF-60 SDH/PDH jitter analyzer. But i think 80 pics are too much for the forum. I was looking for webspace and some sort of wordpress thing to show that stuff. Someday in the near future :)

However, the printer now works. The shaft of the stepper drive was totally blocked with some sort of resin. A few spatter of electronics cleaner, tiny drops of oil and it works fine.

That's the thing I love about older gear.  Quality design and construction, and when there's a problem, you have a good chance to fix it.  Vs. the throwaway stuff today.  It's just fun to get an opportunity to work with it.

Hi!

I've seen the unit too on ebay. But with shipping to germany it is a little bit expensive. And the only reason i would buy another unit, is that I need the LCD protection glass. Mine is broken.

Here are some pictures of the inside . . . .

Hello,

I have one. Not very much useful but build quality is awesome. Weights a ton. Amazingly "silent" when you see the 4 fans inside, but these are Papst ones !
Two Ni-Cd backup batteries on an internal card are to be checked for leakage (can be seen on a photo). I have removed them.
Mine has some random black lines on the display (not always at the same place).
I did not find any documents about this beast, except some datasheets.
Rgds,
Michel.

Hm. I just noticed than the one available on ebay, has the front fiber-optics connectors unpopulated, but seems to have more coax connectors than yours, under the LCD screen. So it must have some different options, and it will probably be missing the two fancy gold plated fiber optics end modules I see on your photos....

I bought my unit maybe 1,5 years ago. The unit itself costs me 50€ + 15€ shipping. The one actually on Ebay which Mashpriborintorg bought costs 34€ + 45€ shipping I think. And as i said, the only thing I need is the LCD cover glass. It's quite hard to get one piece of shielded glas in an individual size.

My SF-60 only have one of four signal outputs populated. The one from Ebay hav all Signal outputs, but no optical interface.

On the picture you can see my version/options. By the way, I love the little tool box at the back  :D

There is no optical interface, but the "Laser on" led is lit up.... maybe there are optical connectors on the rear panel ? I'll see, hopefully it will arrive next week.

Uhm, are there any practical measurements you can do with a SDH analyzer like this ... outside SDH networks?

@IMG_6849.JPG : quite an EPROM "chipset" :-)

Well the seller was incredibly fast, the SF60 is here already  :-+

As expected: The board with fiber optics stuff is not populated, I have an empty slot with unconnected cables ziptied all around.

Goods news: the LCD is finally working, the boot hangs onto a "RAM/ low battery / data loss failure"  :-BROKE

I hope there's a back-up battery somewhere that needs to be replaced to fix the problem !  :-/O

My version is BN 3017/01, no options. Serial number on the front panel is U0009.

Hi Ming!

I've scanned the manual for you. Maybe I will scan the programming manual within the next few days. Enough scanning-monotony for today.  :=\

I will try to scan the programming manual too. At the moment it's a bit difficult, could take a while.

Thanks, but no thanks! It takes quite some time to scan this. But that is one of the great benefits from a community like this. I've learned a lot here and got so much help. And I try to give that back where I can.
