Rigol DS2000 now, or DS200A later
« on: August 23, 2013, 12:23:28 am »
All,

I'm in the position to ask work for a scope, and I'm curious what people think.

Should I get the Rigol DS2072 now, or wait until October or so when the DS200A's (Revision 2 of the hardware) are available (in the states)? I've looked at the thread in the forums about it, and it seems the biggest change is the addition of the 50R termination, and a header for an LA (though Rigol claims they have no plans for having a DS2000 with an LA at this time). The 50R termination would be nice, but I have a 50R passthru terminator, so it's not critical. The noise floor looks pretty much identical.

I do plan to hack the scope to 200mhz using the methods elsewhere on the forums.

What are people's thoughts?

OK, so the 'A' indicates HW. Ver 2.0  :)

That's what I've been told by tequipment.net, who got that info from Rigol (I believe). So... yes. =)

LOL, have the same name (as the RIGOL DS2202A):

Nice. Looks like a Hantek from the picture.

And if you go to rigolna.com or rigol.eu you can see that model names are updated to "A" version (under specification tab).

Do you intend to hack it? The A version might be harder. You can probably get a discount on a 2000 right now if you pester your supplier too.

I do. But it seems discounts are unlikely as demand for the DS2072 has skyrocketed (guessing this is due to the hack).

So... wait, or don't? I believe I saw in the hack thread someone had successfully done the hack with the DS2000A series... Also seems like they're re-doing their models (the DS2072 looks to become to DS2002A).

Anyone who got a Rev 2 know if the price changed?

Take a look at http://www.adinstruments.es/epages/62688782.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62688782/Products/DS4054

For sure the price is not correct...  :palm:

Sure, and the DS2072 specifications are not correct.  :-//
They will notice that the price is not correc if someone buy it?  Maybe someone will get lucky.  ;D

Yeah, all their prices/descriptions seem very... wrong.

Still not a good argument one way or the other...

Anyone?
