Weird new ANENG multimeters - "hybrid" design
« on: March 13, 2019, 12:46:37 am »
Looks like ANENG is about to release two new multimeters that have both auto and manual ranges on the dial.

There's the V7 which looks like this... it has manual ranging plus a single "Auto" setting that intelligently detects what you're measuring:

...and the V8 which looks like this - a lot of auto ranges in light blue and a selection of manual ranges for Volts/Ohms:

I like that it has separate range selection for diode/continuity/ohms/capacitance without having to turn the dial then press the range button to get where I want to go but it has the same inverse, battery gobbling display as the Q1 so that probably kills it for a lot of people (me included) unless they've sorted out the battery cutoff voltage. Who's going to be brave enough to find out? (and also if the bar graph is fake or not?)

There's a demo video here, it looks like the physical size won't disappoint anybody who's looking for a big meter:

Both of them are available for pre-order on banggood so it seems they aren't released yet. Price is about $35.

This page has more info and plenty of LOLs in the translation. It also has pics of the "safety tubes" (ie. fuses).

I dont see any problems with the full auto range,  I would say its a good added bonus function

Gossen Metrahit 28 and 29 have this function, i use it very often, works pretty fast.

ANENG makes a meter which is only automatic, no range selection at all:

It looks like it even has 1.5V/9V battery test in there. I worry about things like speed of continuity tester though.

(on the new "hybrid" meters there's a manual selection for that range so I don't imagine it's a real problem)

When I select the image for the V7 LCD model the price is $43.15 and the V8 is 51.78, so the difference is $8.63 AUD between the two models. For some users the dual display on the V8 could be handy and worth the eight bucks, certainly looking forward to somebody doing a side by side review on these.

SOLD! I'll go the V8, good purr factor, safety tubes,
and tow loads better uphill  :-+

I dunno guys, these wheel choc meters look a bit Mastech-y   :-//

FWIW, I have a couple of Mastechs, they get the job done

Looks like there is a shift on the design on some models, like the aneng M11:

On the function side is similar to 8002. From inside, looks it has some sort of resettable fuse instead of tiny fuses. The display looks different by the pictures. , range switch also different. Size is about the same.

From the photos, it looks like they can't decide if the meter will have temperature measuring capability or two off positions. ;D

if by "self resetting fuse" they mean a polyfuse, those are far too slow for a meter.
not that they wouldnt use them anyway.

I've got meters with polyfuses in them.  :)

Seems like an excellent idea if you're messing around with batteries and 5V USB powered circuits.

Have a uni-t ut120c which has a polyfuse on the current side and according to the manual, it is rated for 600V max. I would not trust this for more than 12V although. don't now if the one used on the aneng M11 has rating on the manual.

I wouldn't be surprised if the enclosure was originally used for an mp3 player. It reminds me of the low-bandwidth handheld scopes that already took advantage of them.

1000V and 60MOhm on this meter?
I cannot wait until they add the 200A range and the 100KV or the femtofarad range to it.

At least one advantage of having this "auto-everything" meter is that it does not beep at every selection of the rotary dial!

If the price didn't reek of a scam, I would consider buying it. At the regular price of $30, I would never consider it seriously due to its less than stellar design choices.

Not much functions and the ut 136b might be better value for the money , unless you want to offer for a beginner

This meter looks quite interesting. Uni-T advertises it for home use - hopefully they have a decent input protection.

The fact it does not have current is a massive help to avoid accidents.

The UT136 (non-plus) series is quite good and compact for electronics use. I have a UT136C. Their "plus" variants are radically different and, in my opinion, lose a lot of the high points of the older generation.
