Weird power-up problem Handykit 202E oscilloscope
« on: April 01, 2013, 03:32:05 pm »
I've got a Handykit 202E oscilloscope, a very basic, unpretentious, no-frills, 20MHz 2 channel scope from the early nineties. Though it is functionality wise very limited compared to those newfangled digital scopes, it has served me well. That is until this morning. Now I could try to describe what I see when I power it up, but my English is not that good, and as they say a picture is worth more than a thousand words. So I put a little clip on youtube: .

Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Early nineties? I got mine in 1988! Mine got bad switches which caused unstable traces. Otherwise you can check the electrolytics on the PSU / CRT board.

Here is the manual with full schematics: http://mypdfmanuals.com/dref/2181374

There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.
